How much should this cost? £300 sounds like BS

I need (apparently) to get new brake pads and disks on the front of my 06 plate Touran.

I took it to KwikFit (I know!) because they do the whole, free pads for the life of the car thing and they said that they want £300.

I'm not even convinced the disks need doing, but sure £300 is a bit steep when the parts are probably under £100?

Cheers,

Alex Devlin

Couple of discs should be what £75-£100 and pads £25-£35? (or more depending on what ones)

So yeah, you're paying a lot for time/labour.

Utter ripoff mate, although I'm not familiar with the car. Take photos of your rims before you take it to them - they scratched the alloys of my VXR badly but I couldn't prove it.

Never heard of Bolk! Personally would avoid and go for the Mintex ones for £50

Also it's an easy job to do yourself, save yourself a few hundred quid.

definitely one to either try yourself or go to an indy garage for, stuff like this they can stick the apprentice on during lunch or something so you can pay much less.

You need a few tools and knowledge before attempting it yourself. It's not as simple as an oil change..

Where do you live? Maybe someone can suggest a good indi garage in your area. I'd go to a family run business.

.

Edit, I'd take it to an indi garage and ask if they even need doing at all before asking them to go ahead with it!

Get a pencil, put it on the middle of the disk, if you can scrape softly up the disk and it stops at the rim, and the rim sticks out a few mm, your discs need changing.
