The wacky world of censorship

Wow, you can't even read stories about pigs now in case it offends the religion of peace, permanent outrage and ritual beheading

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2818809.stm

A West Yorkshire head teacher has banned books containing stories about pigs from the classroom in case they offend Muslim children

"We try to be sensitive to the fact that for Muslims talk of pigs is offensive."

Is that sensitive or retarded?
Personally I'm pretty sure that is retarded :D

(story required the MCB to step in)
This is nonsense, stop it.

It's not offensive to Muslims. You should really try and avoid adding to your already quite high levels of ignorance by believing stuff like this.

Call me ignorant and report me to the Dons, but we all have our views - you're entitled to yours as I am to mine. I read a bit of this and that. The Fail for rightards / comedy, Guardian for leftards, the Times (online subscription) for a more neutral standpoint, the Daily Mash for a spot of satire. Do feel free to signpost me somewhere 'more' reliable though :-)

i once did a gaming video with james brown music it was banned from germany :p

haha :D

Interesting you mentioned Germany. I've recorded dozens of fairground / themepark videos which have music in the background played by the ride operator. Youtube's Shazzam-like detection has ID'd the songs and decided that my video cannot be viewed in Germany. Just Germany - probably stricter copyright laws over there?

It may not be specifically prohibited* in the Koran, but some Muslims do object to pictures of pigs
(ref: Muslim News #285)

Equally this person may be wrong, but he was a muslim and he did object.

*Beheading Christians for giggles is prohibited, but that happens all the time, along with 1001 other things.

Islam, two faces.

How's it nonsense? Bbc is normally a fairly reliable source.

Anything showing Islam to be ridiculous is "nonsense", anyone pointing this out is "ignorant"

Those are the rules innit

OCUK wouldn't be the same without the weekly Muslim bashing threads. Well done Gutter tabloids you've educated a society of people who should appear on Benefit Street. :D

The only links posted in here so far have been three to the BBC, one to the telegraph and one to a blog about religion and politics...

the jesus and mo cartoons are quite amusing... (plus as the below cartoon explains he's not actually mohammed - he's just a body double :D)

Frankly if this is 'muslim bashing' then we should be encouraging more and more of it... the faux outrage generated by someone linking to a cartoon is so ridiculous.

How is skin colour relevant to this thread?

Because, correct me if I'm wrong, it usually is white British people who make these changes due to what they think the Muslims want.
Virtually every story that has ever come out about this stuff always features a white council worker or a white teacher with the Muslim Council saying we never asked for this nonsense.

Well I guess I'll have to correct you then:

http://www.anorak.co.uk/340425/news/fact-checking-qatar-bans-piglet-from-winnie-the-pooh-books.html/

It was a Saudi owned book store in Quatar...

And the OP itself concerned an example of censorship occurring in Malasyia.

This has got very little to do with race...

Well congratulations on your victory but as you fully well know every time these stories appear in the press it's normally white council workers or white teachers who take action on behalf of the Muslims.

Mind you have you got a reliable sauce or is it just a random link to somewhere on the Internet?
It's weird that the 3 links on that page lead nowhere.
