i3 3220 upgrade to i5?

^^ Um... Ok.

You must be a great guy to hang around with ALXAndy. Your opinion is the only one that is right. Anything else is twaddle.. Ok matey.

But you've proven time and again that you are not capable of a reasonable discussion. You constantly post rubbish that ends up being debunked, kinda like a conspiracy theorist.

Enjoy your FX anyway bud, I like my lil Xeon @ stock it can beat that FX even when it's @ like 5.0Ghz :D

How very petulant. See? this kind of confirms my point above. £170 for a CPU? it should beat a £109 CPU every single time. If you weren't sharp enough to work that out I fear for you, I really do.

Just because you like to overclock doesn't their are people that don't care about overclocking..

Each to their own bud.

Only this forum is called Overclockers and as such, you're the odd one out. If you want to buy locked CPUs then that's up to you, however the general consensus here and on other enthusiast forums is not to.

So as you say, each to their own.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I have just ordered a Intel Core i5-3570K, more performance and I can have a dable in some overclocking. Will have a nice gaming rig then for now and the future! I can always upgrade the GPU at a later date as I know it's not exactly a performance part but for £££ at this time it will do me nicely!

Quick question though, would I need to reinstall windows after swapping the CPU? Or would a simple CMOS clear do the trick?

windows will be fine, might need to clear cmos idk,but try cpu first

might not need clearing

+1 Great advice wazza.

Love tweaking my i5 and i7, my i7 3770k is a nice clocker when l get the urge, not really stretched my i5 4670k, plenty of time tho :)

(Wish l had kept my old i7 2700k)

Just realised also that my i3 has restricted me to pci e 2.0 and I think that has hurt my GPU OC also. But with my new i5 I will get full pci e speed and hopfully a good OC on my GPU aswell as my CPU. Good bit of performance increase all round.

It will feel faster in gaming, you'll notice program loading and searching will be quicker also with a true quadcore, even more so with a mild oc

Pci-e3 only adds 1% improvement over pci-e2 so might be less noticeable

Sounds good, can't wait! Could the PCIE2 be restricting my OC on my GPU though? Seems anything over my stated OC in my sig is unstable. I just put it down to my cards personal characteristics.

I'd just put it down to the limits of your card,Idk if your increasing the gpu voltage or just clocking it on stock voltage? To go higher you probably need to add more gpu v in software like msi afterburner or sapphire trixx

Seen my cards clock to 1200mhz on the core yet 1065mhz is my limit really. My card is volt locked I think so cant increase it. Will give a better OC a go when I get my i5 installed.

Thanks for all the help and replies guys!

Thanks for all the advice guys, installed my 3570k with a stock cooler and arctic ceramique 2 TIM and I love it. Doubled my FPS in CS GO. Auto settings are all ultra/high now as default and it runs around 200+ FPS most of the time.

Might try a small overclock say at 4Ghz on standard cooler soon or may just wait till I get a decent cooler.

Thanks again guys!
