Quick question....
Why would anyone buy an i5 4670K when a Xeon E3 1230 v2 is around the same price and is basically an i7 4770 without the igp. ( please correct me if Im wrong)

Can the Xeon be overclocked ?

Would an oc'd i5 beat the xeon ?

Depends on the set up really.
The Xeon can't be overclocked, but you'll get the most out of it in any board.

It is indeed a 4770 without an IGP.

OC'ed 4670K will beat the Xeon in some situations (Depending on your programs) and the xeon will beat the 4670K in some situations.

1230 v2 = ~ £170
1230 v3 = ~ £190
i7 4770 = ~ £230
i5 4670K = ~ £175

The IB V2 doesn't support 2 separate instructions that are not common anyway and uses 10 watts less power than the Haswell V3.
A pretty good saving of £60.00 over an i7 4770 or save a fiver over a i5 4670K.

The Xeon E3 CPUs were first noticed by the SFF PC crowd on various forums(its how I noticed them a few years ago too),so they are not too bad for the money IMHO.
