Xfx ftw love my two always performed superb. Can't comment on the customer service tho.

You picked the Sapphire TRI X 290 Pro cards instead of the Sapphire Tri X 290X cards. Yes the naming scheme is terrible.

. Also threw me because they're 4GB. They're doing an NV number on those with the misleading naming scheme

£1,550.77 for 3 reference cooled 290X MSI cards with the EK blocks and back plates.

In regards memory bus, the 780ti has more bandwidth so it isnt memory that is at issue

I think the higher ROP count gives the 290X the edge over the 780 Ti at higher resolutions.

Whats happening in that BF benchmark between 111 and 131 to cause the 780Ti to drop to 30, yet the DD is way up at 80?

Yeah it's quite bizarre that the point at which the 780 Ti is at its lowest fps, the 290X is at its highest.

I'll probably get called out for saying this, but honestly at that resolution it could easily be VRAM. Especially with those settings. That's still speculation though, and it does bounce back fairly quickly so may have been something as simple as a system process caused the game to blip.

I am genuinely shocked they apparently didn't run into a frame buffer wall though on the Ti.

EDIT: Taking a second take I've realised they used 2XMSAA on the Ti, I'm guessing that's why. That's got to be the memory bus on the 290X taking over too.

I get tired of all this red vs green stuff, i mean am i the only one that thinks both teams got some great cards? the difference between them is not really worth shouting about, the numbers vary from one review to the next and can be different on any given day, less time benching and more time gaming i say

Great great results from the DD card, just slightly worrying that the 290X's throttle so much on stock clocks!!

Think it may be best if I strap some after-market cooling onto mine before the summer comes

Does the XDMA make that much difference Matt? i'm hoping once mantle sorts out the irregular CPU frame rates my 7970s will be smooth enough anyway for 1080 @120Hz.

I'm running a Gene V as well so those hot 290s are only gonna get hotter with no spare slots between cards...
