Buying off an American site (via proxy) - Legalities

My point is the automatic systems will flag it up as fradulent and will most likely ask for proof of card ownership, so a lot of hassle.

I live in a country without netflix. I was able to buy a US subscription with a foreign card with a vpn. I just had to enter a US zip code. Not a problem.

I tried to buy some train tickets online from a French train website and it didn't work - used a French card and it worked fine despite me being in the UK. Later my English bank phoned me to warm me that my card had been attempted to use abroad - so it does depend on the bank and how they flag up fraudulent use.

If the bank does that you can just ring them up and let them know your going to be making a purchase through a foreign site and they will let it through on the next attempt. Had exactly the same issue when buying stuff from digital Rev and also purchasing Italian train tickets.

Yes I could have - but I didn't have the time to faff about with that. :) I was just pointing out that sometimes some banks are a little fussier than others :)
