So last night I came in from a hard day at work to find my house had been burgled. :(

I have been mugged before and had a car stolen before but this is the first time my property has ever been violated and it is a horrible feeling.

It is not the fact that they took stuff, I do not really care about that, I am fully insured, its the fact somebody has been wandering around my sanctum sanctorum like its theirs or they have a right to be there.

Maybe just one or two items from my wife's jewellery box wont be to easy to replace but the rest was my Nexus 7, about £400 in cash, a few bits of Jewellery and a camera, so although annoying to lose, easy to get hold of new ones.

I did not exactly make it hard for them either, the small window at the top of my lean-to was left open a crack and I did not lock the door between the lean-to and main house.

I live in a nice house in a nice area, surrounded by decent people and I guess I was pulled into a false sense of security. Not any more, a little late and an expensive lesson but tomorrow I have a guy coming to install an alarm, cctv and lights to the property.

The other thing that is bothering me is I am due to fly to Egypt for 2 weeks in Sunday and I cant see how I can lay there in the sun and relax knowing the house is unattended, even if it is going to be well protected.

Grrrrrr life :(

Check your policy, some insurers can be a bit picky about paying out if the property was left unattended and not properly secured.

aslong as you insured you should be okay that area.

police will come say they probably wore gloves yada yada no chance of catching them and leave shortly after.

That is very annoying mate, I fully understand the irritation over invasion of space.

my house was burgled a couple of times as uni student, though they never tool anything of mine. Last year we rented a house, which didn't have an alarm and had flimsy windows, i was always worried when we went on holiday. First thing I did when i bought our new house was install an alarm, as I am totally paranoid about being burgled.

Out of interest how much did the CCTV and lights cost? and how does the CCTV work - where is the video sent?

Alas, this is quite true.

some insurers expect you to stay in your house 100% of your life :(

Samething happened to me last year, the alarm picked them up though so they didnt get anywhere or take anything. Still not a nice feeling, you never can be too safe. I still got CCTV installed as an backup, monitored 24/7 and can be accessed from my phone.

Doesn't matter how nice your area is, you still get thieving scum.

Feel for you. I've been burgled and I was fortunate that they only took a laptop and the 42" tv. The flat wasn't ransacked so we were "lucky" I suppose. It would have been ten times worse if everything was trashed. Its just a terrible feeling and I hope to god that it doesn't happen to me again.

Police been yet?

Yeah an Officer was at my address within an hour of my original call he done a preliminary inspection, took my statement and went through what happens next and the this morning at about 9 the CSI turned up and done their thing, they found some foot prints so thats better than nothing i suppose.
They are getting the local plastic bobby to do some door to door later today.

Been in touch with the insurance company?

My wife spoke to them this morning, we are insured with Allianz so they are pretty good, told them about the window and its not an issue and its the same for the door, because its an internal door.

To the others, insurance fraud aint my bag baby :)
