Well, looks like my HTC One is now having to go back to the O2 store thanks to the dreaded purple camera issue. Beyond gutted because of the faultless job I made of putting the screen protector on. :-(

Recently I have had:-

Galaxy S4 .... Decent enough but due to a staff discount issue, went back to Vodafone. Not impressed with Touchwiz whatsoever mind. Horrid Gingerbread theming still there too.

Xperia Z1 .... Too bulky, so much I nearly dropped it and that screen is AWFUL. I absolutely hate that washed out, angleless display. What a missed opportunity by Sony.

LG G2 is an option. But the reports of a slow shutter speed on the camera and janky software has put me off.

Nexus 5 .... Camera isn't suited to my needs.

HTC One.... Phone I have enjoyed using the most, really love this thing but I am worried whatever replacement I get will have this nasty camera issue. There is a huge XDA thread still going about it.

If I could take the HTC One screen and put it on the Z1, I would be happy with that.

Because shops are so lit up, will be very difficult to recreate the environment that has been destroying my HTC One pics most of the time, so I have no assurances of walking out with a decent one.

Buying a phone was never this difficult, and I was far fussier before.

Why do some people switch 5+ phones within a year? I don't even buy clothes that often.

to the OP - Save yourself a few quid and stop worrying about having the latest gadget. they all do the same thing nowadays. My S3 is almost out of its 2 year contract but to be honest its working fine with Cyanognen mod installed. I will be reducing the monthly bill and running it for another year at least or until it breaks.

+1

The Nexus 5 is the first phone I'm really happy with on all fronts the Nexus 4 lacked in the camera department abut the Nexus 5 especially with the new update has done really well, still niggly but it is a very cheap phone.

I may keep it for a few years depending on resale value and the cost of the next Nexus.

I think OP wants that Nokia phone the one with 41 megapixel camera. It runs windows though.

The purple hue seems to be a common issue for all phones and could be fixed with software.

I'd wait. The 1020, Galaxy, One and Z1 should all be replaced over the next few months. The Nexus would be the best choice if you can't, the camera is competitive enough.

Will see how I get on at the weekend. Going into the O2 store, apparently you get 14 days for faults to return handsets. I don't trust the HTC One at all.

This morning, I see the Xperia Z1 Compact is getting good reviews. They sorted the screen out and you can pick one up with their smartwatch for £450.
