Windows 8 total shut down

Hi all

A few times now while playing or exiting Sim City my Windows 8.1 installation just packs in and the computer just completely switches off. I don't have such an issue on Windows 7. Does anyone have any idea what could be going so catastrophically wrong as to completely switch the machine off rather than just a blue screen or restart?

Overheating or bad PSU?...Anything listed in Event Viewer or Reliability History?

Is the machine overclocked?

I'll have to check event viewer to see what's going on, but it only appears to happen when playing Sim City. The machine isn't overclocked.

+1 seconded. Get yourself a real sim game!

All seriousness, check your drivers (graphics, sound etc) maybe check if your motherboard has a firmware upgrade? Not saying it's likely but could be possible.

What graphics card are you running? I play now and then (when the servers allow me to!) on Windows 8.1 with no issue running the latest nvidia graphics drivers.

I'd suspect drivers is your main issue if temperatures have been ruled out.
