Moving on.

During my search for a server or HTPC.. I came across a monsterous Dell running a whopping 6.8GHz!

Ebay Description said:
This is the REAL DEAL. A genuine Pentium D Dual Core CPU which really gives you 2 processors for the price of one and an effective output of 6.8GHZ!!!!

What's worrying is that, according to ebay, 881 of those items have been sold!

What ebay listing have you seen today that has piqued your interest?!

How has he managed 99.9% positive feedback assuming the other items he sells are just as misleading

Lol at people still selling dual core CPUs like that. I remember they used to do it back when dual cores first came out.... and they're still doing it.

I remember when I used to work at Currys on Customer Services and heard the sales guys run spiel off like this all the time. Cringeworthy!

At least its not a duel core.

That really narks me off.

If the cores were duelling it would be a slower speed, but because they're working together you get the full 6.8Ghz.

Also, you need to be careful, because it's Windows so it gets viruses, unlike Macs.

I start work at PC World next week.

Yeah I've seen the e.g. dual core 3.4GHz advertised as 6.8GHz all too often. The sheeple buys that though. Us OCUKers don't :-) Then there's the ATI HD5450. That benches around about the same as an Intel HD 3000 onboard graphics lol. And an 80GB hard drive wtf :p £150 not bad for a basic internet PC though. Not sure how well it would fare with the more graphics-heavy web 2.0 though.

It's a terrible way to spend £150 - it's around 7 years old so very close to death, a P4 so it eats power etc.

You will find better machines being thrown away. It's worth about £30 max.
