For xmas the Mrs bought me a new monitor, the Samsung S24B150BL.

Now, I'm hardly a pedant when it comes to image quality, but even to me the screens colours seem very wrong. Whites come out yellow. Having it next to my S23a700d it looks absolutely terrible.

At first I thought it was faulty so returned it, however the replacement has the same issues.

Is there any known fix or is it just crap?

Cheers

The S23A700D has quite a cool tint to it usually (without correction) so it might be making the comparison quite stark. I suspect your S24B150BL needs a bit of balancing of its colour channels. This can be a bit tricky to do without the aid of a calibration device, but I'd start by just lowering the green channel a bit (don't go further than -10 from default) and then trying the same with the red channel. The trick is to get the balance of both channels just right. If you notice a yellow tint then it's likely that the green channel is too strong and perhaps the red channel is slightly too strong as well.

Thanks Ill have a proper play around with the calibration but after messing about before I couldn't work out if it was getting better or worse.

On another note why is it impossible to find the S23A700D anymore? Kicking myself for not buying 2 instead of just the one way back when.

How're you connecting it? You getting 0-255 colour or 16-235? Worth checking, I doubt it's the problem though :(

Have tried vga and dvi. Google seemed to suggest some people have had similar problems with 2nd monitors. I have tried setting a profile in colour management and using it as the only monitor but no luck.

How do I check if its 0-255 or 16-235?

If using DVI or VGA it will be 0-255. Was a good suggestion by David though as that can cause a load of problems over HDMI. I'd continue to have a play with the colour channels but I know it can be tricky. Try turning off your S23A700D completely, though, before playing about. The backlight spectrums are a bit different and the 700D will naturally look a lot cooler and white's more purer because of that.

And I know it's a shame the S23A700D was discontinued. Samsung discontinued what are in my opinion and the opinion of many others some of their finest gaming monitors, the SA700/750/950 series. What's more they haven't replaced them with anything. I wish they'd wake up to the fact people might not be so interested in 3D any more but they are certainly interested in high refresh rates.

I have had a play and dropping the green and red significantly has helped. It looks better but not great. Seems as though it inst consistent across the whole screen. The top right looks about right while the bottom left is nearly orange. Backlight bleed can't be helping.

I never really noticed how good the 700D was until now. I think I only tried 3D once or twice but 120hz is great. There seems to be one on ebay for £240. It's tempting but im sure that's more than I paid for this one years ago.
