Guys, I need a car! Our Megane is showing its age.

We have approx 6k to spend.

Car needs to be efficient with good fuel economy and minimum tax. No 3 seaters as we have a child.

Got to think of the pennies as we are not a rich family! Not after a sports car!

What do you guys recommend?

How much do you travel? Do you rather petrol or is diesel an option?

Bodystyle preference (Saloon, hatch, etc)?

If you do a fair bit of mileage then I suggest the Honda Accord 2.2 CTDi, strong diesel engines, nice car, comfortable, easily accomidate a family of 5, you just need to find one with lowish mileage...not many about.

How about a Nissan Note?

You should be able to get a relatively new one with low mileage.

Practical..but a little ugly :/

Yeah Notes seem like great cars all round except for looks. New models look nice though.

Have you considering leasing? If you usually change your car every 3 years and fancy something new most lease schemes cost around £5200-6000. Essentially your just renting a car for a long time.

Better than buying new and selling on 3 years later but not as good value as buying second hand.

Have you considered 2008+ Fiestas? They go for around the 5-7k mark depending on if you go private or not.

Dont want to buy Renault again.

Leasing, no thanks.

Shape of car, not too bothered. Must be a good at running costs / tax, a bit of oomph too.

Diesel or petrol, dont mind. Ta guys

This thread is depressing. My 4 year old is more proactive than the OP.

6k is actually a decent budget. Perhaps spend a few weekends wandering round a few local delearships to get a feel for what you like then bring your preferences back here for a discussion.

If that sounds like far too much faff for you then just buy a Focus or a Mondeo.

Its help and advice i am looking for. Thanks for your input

tbh his advice is sound, if you aren't fussed, grab a diesel mondeo and off you go. Should get a nice one for the budget.
