Decided on Accord Euro R

Hi,

I've decided on the CL7 Euro R. Insurance is going to be about the same but I'm concerned about maintenance costs and availability of parts. I've no idea how much in common it has with the UK Accords which only were available up to the Type S but in the event replacement parts are required, do any of you know if these are going to dampen the experience of owning such a rare and good looking saloon?

Ultimately I don't want to be in a position whereby a mechanic tells me a part is unavailable or it will cost a bomb to import and replace. Neither do I want to be faced with huge bills if there are any particular known catastrophic problems with Accords.

It's a gamble with it costing about £4K more than the Type S but I hope it shares a lot in common with the UK CL7 Accords. Also it's getting on to 11 years old so please educate me!

Thanks :)

Your best bet would be to find either a local Honda specialist to advise on maintaining it and the availability of parts and try and find an online forum dedicated to Honda drivers who might have more experience in such a car.

I've found an importer and private seller selling one for about £7500

Quite a lot for a car that old, why this car? What makes you want this over others?

Yeh I'm going to sign up to Honda Tech and ring ABP Motorsport tomorrow as that is who I intend to have it serviced by and modified over time. See if they can shed any light on the matter.

Servicing is no different than a Civic Type-R

Good luck finding a good one, would love to see pics if you do. I would love one myself but very difficult to find unless you're happy to import

Over UK Spec it has the JDM K20A 220BHP instead of the UKDM K24 190BHP, Recaro's, LSD, Momo Steering Wheel etc

I'm looking at 4-5K for my current IS250 and add an extra few K to that budget I decided on the Euro R because it's faster, rare, totally JDM :p, will be a long term project, and I just love the looks of the car. Even in Type S form it looks super slick especially those tail lights but I want the faster Euro R.

My previous thread indicated for my budget that I really wasn't interested in anything else other than the Euro R, Audi C6 facelifted or E39 5 series. I've now settled on the Euro R as C6 facelift for my budget will be the cheapest of the selection online so really to get a decent one will be out of budget and the E39 well I love the look of that car too but I've always loved the jap car scene and after dreaming about owning a Supra, Skyline, Silvia or Evo I finally settled on the Euro R as I don't get the ridiculous insurance quotes associated with the former but I do get the downsides of a car that's so rare.

I do really like these now they've come down in price over the last few years.

It'll be a fair bit harder to get parts, saying that i never had that much trouble when i had my DC5 and no variant of that was ever sold in Europe. You can get all parts from your local Honda dealer but they may deny this. Twomills Honda near Chester used to be a really good one as their parts guy knew all the imports so could get you anything but looks like they've closed up shop :(

Make sure you get on the usual Honda forums as you can quite often find parts on there or at least get in touch with some one who can get hold of it.

I love the colour of the one your looking at (i'm assuming torqueGT).

Depending where you are in the country there are a couple of good specialists, TDI North in Warrington are top notch and they will probably be able to source anything you want as well. It's usually worth getting it served at one of them otherwise it can kill the re-sale also they know what to look for more than your regular mechanic.

This would seem like ridiculous money to spend on an 11 year old Accord. Bizarre. There must be numerous better £7.5k cars around.

You can't put a price on JDM cool! Honda do seem to have a rather high rate of scene tax compared to others but hey, you'll get it back on re-sale.

Even the most ropey thrashed JDM DC2 is still worth over 4k even though they're getting on for 18 years old...

Thanks. The 2 I found so far in the country are...

Definitely will post pics if I do go through with this but my uneducated guess that there aren't even 10 owners of this car in the UK has got me worried in terms of parts. The differences you've mentioned has me worried more :p I mean what if I need a new LSD?!

Do you need 4 doors?

7.5k = DC5!
DC5 go for about another £3K but yeh I would like 4 doors. I've always been into saloons with a bit of pace and if I was to go for a 2 door it would have to be a Supra, Skyline or Silvia. Never been too keen on the DC5 looks.

If you need a new LSD like i did in my DC5 get after market, i got a wavetrac diff which was ******* awesome and made the car a lot better.

Stop worrying and get it bought it'll be fine!

This has rung in my head constantly the madness of the money to the age of the car aspect but as above there is very little else that appeals to me for the budget.

Tbh I'm not sure how you can drop £7.5k on one of these without even driving it? I know they're rare....but all the more reason to make sure it's really what you want?

I really can't see the engine working well in the Accord, it's just not that type of car imo - the other problem with home market only Hondas is they tend to have incredibly stiff ride. Ever been in an FD2? It's absolutely horrific...and I quite like stiff suspension

Surely a DC5 is just as Jap cool, but actually a better car?

In terms of parts though, can't see it being too much trouble as it'll just be a mix of DC5 and Accord bits, all of which will be a fortune from Honda anyway

How much was that diff if you don't mind me asking? As long as the parts that differentiate the Euro R and the UK spec Accords can be replaced at reasonable cost with aftermarket ones or universal ones then I be much more confident in my purchase...

Some Euro R white love...prefer the white...

Wouln't worry at all about it, as said it's a K20A so plenty of parts available for it if anything went wrong, I'd say a lot of things as identical on the UK Spec.

They obviously dont 'hold value', it seems nobody buys them. That car has been for sale for more than half a year and it's still not sold. Seems like its true value is somewhat less than the owner thinks it is.

As a £3-4k car these look very interesting but as a £7-8k car I'm sorry but it just looks completely crap. It's a 10 year old Accord and despite the engine being brilliant in a smaller, lighter, focused Coupe I'm afraid in a large saloon car it isn't enough to redeem it.

Terrible idea :(

Surely even your current IS250 is just.. better.
