Hi guys im looking for an upgrade from my current set up of 2 6970's 2GB with the new cards what sort of performance gains am i looking at?

also shall i update my mobo for the pci 3.0 slots or is it not worth it?

P.S i want single card solution.

thankyou

Budget? Little difference between Pci 3 and 2 to be honest, so I wouldn't worry about that. :)

This shows you the difference between a single 6970 and the current best buy card, the Msi R9 290 Gaming.(which will be slightly better than a stock 290) :D

Whats your system specs?

in the spec link under my sig

i play a mixture really FPS RTS RPG all sorts

This, better looking card, cool and quiet and cheaper today only!! Oh and 3yr warranty.

whats the difference between 290 and 290x??

also i dont mind either team green or red just want the best upgrade really

No 780 anywhere near the price of the Msi R9 290 Gaming, which is the better card, unless you need Nvidia things, PhysX etc. But then Mantle.......:D

around 450 pounds TOPS

but 350 ish would be comfortable range for me

GTX780ti or R290X, get one with a decent cooler and you should be able to clock the nuts off it. You will have to sell your HD6970's of course, but thankfully as they can each out hash anything you can buy today for <£200 you shouldn't have any trouble with that :)

I find it funny when someone is trying to sale a product just because he owns it. Looks like you are a saleman from MSI.

Cant beat first hand experience though can you. Had a lot of Msi stuff over the years, my P67A motherboard is still going strong, having just put a Xeon cpu in it with no problems. Also a big fan of Gigabyte stuff but the Msi 290 Gaming IS a steal today. :D

thankyou all for suggestions

looks like its going to be the 290 then

just out of interest when is the next 20 nanometer (nm) process shrink comming out?
