Hi guys and girls,

My MSI 780TI gaming edition has started with pretty horrific coil whine, under load it sounds pretty bad, most likely been like this since I bought it although since fitting a custom wc loop I never really noticed it as my system was noisy,

Im getting a refund for the card so am looking at replacements but not sure which one to go with, any suggestions ?

Been looking at the EVGA Dual Classified 780TI which would cost me another £70 on top, worth it ?

I want to stick to a single fast card for the moment then add another for SLI later down the line, I only really play BF4 btw :)

Thanks

If you're planning on going SLI later on and going to use air coolers, you're probably better off going with reference GTX 780Ti's. The cooler works great, very effective for dumping heat out the back of the case VS other custom coolers that keep heat in the PC.

Running ref SLI Ti's myself and both cards run cool and quiet.

Which one would you go with then or does ref really not mater ?

I wanted something I could put a small overclock on, I heard the EVGA ones were very good, I could go with a EVGA SC which I believe has ref cooler ?

We have Palit one's in stock which I could take today but not too sure about the brand tbh

I'm using a Classified,Amazing little card,Not sure if it's worth the extra £70 though because i haven't used the MSI card.

Mine runs very quiet and cool,Idle 26C max about 58 and that's overclocked on air.

Coil whine isn't really a faulty card, I presume it was still working just fine?

In anyways I'd go for an EVGA SUPERCLOCK ACX if it were my money for a different 780ti.

Much worse than that mate, it's giving me the occasional blue screen too but the whine is doing my head in, got a good deal on a evga dual classy so went with that.

I downloaded occt, select gpu test and run that, should have made a vid of it really my bad.
