As title really. After some headphones plain and simple. Got a yamahahahaha AV reciever with a 6.xmm front jack. GOt a converter to the standard 3.5mm so no issue there.

Basically I want somewhat decent sound quality, but also something that will sit on my head for an hour or 2 without discomfort. It would also be good if they look quite good too (although this is obviously subjective and not overly important).

I'm looking to spend around £100 although obviously if there is a pair that is £130 that is just miles better than those at £100 then it will be silly to reject that idea.

Danke.

p.s. what would ~£200 get me?

You'll probably get a lot of suggestions, but if I could only take one set of headphones that I've ever owned (in this price range), then it would be the Beyer 770 Pros (for the record I have the 80 ohm flavour, the 250 will be fine if you're amping). They are super comfy and will be fine on your head for hours even if you wear glasses, easy to find parts for, have a sound that lends itself to movies I find with good bass, but the sound is always going to be a personal thing.

Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro (open back) or Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro (closed back) - you'll get either for less than £130

Thanks fot the suggestions! But could someone please explain what open back, closed back means?

I'm not completely sure but I believe open back means other people will hear the headphones, but normally have better soundstage and seperation than closed back.

Closed back are better for noise cancelling and isolation.

Closed is exactly that, the back behind the speaker is closed, open is open, normally have a grill.

Closed are good for commuting, isolating outside noise, people don't hear your music and arguable tighter bass as it's harder to engineer something open back with good bass.

I like headphones that are neutral, uncoloured, present music as the sound engineer intended and I think the Sony is really good for that and almost all the recording studio on the planet agrees, it's a commonly used for recording because they are accurate, comfortable (need to be used for hours), durable and a great price.

I have both the Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro and the Sony MDR V6, which is to all intents and purposes the same as the 7506. I use the Sonys when recording and editing but when it comes to playing music for pleasure the Beyers are in a different league, much wider sound stage so that the instruments don't sound as though they are in my head, the bass goes far deeper and has a real "growl" to it and I can wear them for hours on end while wearing glasses, which is something I can't do with the Sony's.

But the Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro costs twice the Sony, I don't think they are twice as good.

And if you are thinking about the 600ohm ones, that's 5 times the cost of the Sony.

The Sony is a bargain what what it costs.

Bought the Philips X1s, they simply seem the best, and a step above the rest compared to all the others.

second on this. x1 all the way. i wear it on gaming sessions (like once a month on fri night) for 12 hrs or more... it gets quite hot i just blow on it and then put it back on.. but its the most comfortable headphones ive ever tried and its reasonable the fact it gets hot lol

i got given a nearly new pair of sennheiser hd518's and they are the most comfortable headphones ive ever worn....think you can get them for baout £80 ..bargin i think...
