I have water in rear passenger footwell.... first thought was seal. Checked and looks ok, and carpet directly below door is dry so meaning it's not leaking into footwell from door.

Where do you reckon it is from? I can't see anything in passenger footwell so don't think it's leaking from there.

Suggestions? I can't get passenger door open due to poxy central locking but carpet feels dry under door.

Been researching my own leak in my 03 Mondeo and it seems there's a few usual candidates which I guess might translate to Focus' too?

1- Windscreen seal can be the issue sometimes but the only real way to know is to pull the car apart or just get a new windscreen. Remove/reseal of an existing windscreen is about the same as the excess to get a new one from insurance >.<

2- Rubber/Plastic part that stops most of the water running down the windscreen into the engine bay can let too much water through. It sometimes runs down onto the air/pollen filter cover and leaks in through there

3- Door membranes can fail so any water that trickles past the rubber seal that's against the window runs down the door and into the car. The membrane should stop that from happening and should instead make it run out of the bottom of the door but if there's a hole it in then it finds it's way into the car.

4- Saw one instances of sealant around some cables that go from the cabin to engine bay having perished and was letting some water through.

In all cases it seems a pain to track since the water makes its way in under the carpet so you only feel the wet once the water has trickled down into the footwell and has soaked the carpet.

I had a new windscreen fitted which seemed to have fixed the issue for a week or two since the car dried out but then it seems to have gotten wet again in the last few days!

It seems to be when it's left standing, not when I'm driving along.

Heard about it being pollen filter where bottom of windscreen is (scuttle panel??) but it's the REAR passenger not the front. That's what is so weird. It has to be the seal?

Thing is though if it's trickling under the window or whatever from the front it'll just run to the back anyway. When my car was leaking under the brake servo the only evidence of it was a puddle in the rear footwell.

Do you know if the car has had a replacement windscreen at all?

snap had the same on a Leon Cupra R,

was leaking at the scuttle and only the rear footwells seemed wet,

with the focus i'd be looking at the area round the pollen filter and check the whole area for blockages/build ups of leaves/crap etc the drain tubes block up

Is there water in the boot? If its a Mk1, just inside the boot in each corner behind the trim, check there for water it can pool and run forward into the rear footwells.
Usually the rear lights or the air vent flaps sticking open.

It did last year.

I'll check the pollen filter to see.

The boot isn't wet.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'll check them out tomorrow.
