Would you be happy with this pay?

If you're not getting anywhere talking to your boss and getting answers to things like is your tax being paid, phone HMRC and ask them if there's any contributions being made for you as you suspect your boss isn't paying them at least then you'll know and if it comes down to it you've got some evidence that will help point them in his direction if they start chasing you for tax.

I will do this later on this afternoon. thanks

Anyone want to employ me? lol

Youch, sounds like one of my old jobs.
Don't suppose you're paid late as well and blamed for things from previous staffs faults when you joined? :P

If you lived in Jersey I'd probably be able to guess exactly where you worked :P

Find another job.

Which is best done whilst in another job.

Whilst the OPs situation sounds bad, it sounds like he can at least pay the bills and eat so there is no point walking away right now to find they are totally skint in a month.

I'm doing My CV today, and will search for a new job whilst still working there.
I cant afford to miss any pay unfortunately :(

What is the work? If it's just PC repair type stuff then you could try the admittedly risky approach of trying to poach as many customers as possible and do the work out of your house in the short term.

It does sound dodgy - I hope for your sake he is paying your NI and tax contributions.
If it was me, I'd be looking for new employment and snatching up any job I could get my hands on.

Run, and never look back. Since you have no contract you'd also be completely entitled to leave the shop door open and walk away at the start of your shift.

I enjoy repairing things, main reason I'm here.
Just wish they paid more what im worth :(

There are plenty of places you can repair things. The fact you have experiance with it, even it if it not the same as something you apply for is a benefit. Have you looked at EPOS support/repair? Its not a million miles away from what you are doing now

Due to what you said about the staff turnover levels I'd assume your employer wouldn't give a toss about you giving notice. They'd just get some other mug, no offence, desperate for a job to take your place. It's the way this country is going - a race to the bottom, whilst a minority rake it in.

I'd find and accept a new job and then open up one day and call your employer into the shop with an 'emergency'. (Do it after you've just been paid, so they can't withold what you're owed.) Then drop it on him. Give him the chance to make an offer to keep you, but regardless of said offer say sod it and walk out leaving the shop to 'em. You've got no contract, so there's nothing to tie you there.

Even if they upped your package, it sounds like they'd just renege on the deal and continue to shaft you in revenge. But I'd guess they wouldn't and would happily see you walk. So I'd do it in the most dramatic and inconvenient way I could.

Either way, you're leaving this job. Good luck!

If the info you gave is correct then using the salary calculator we check our overtime with and stuff (which seems fairly accurate) gives the following:

42.5 Hours a week
250 /week
£5.88 p/h

Gross Income
Year: £12,994.80
Month: £1,082.90

Taxable Income
Year: £710.96
Month: £296.23

Tax
Year: £710.96
Month: £59.25

NI
Year: £628.78
Month: £52.40

TakeHome
Year: £11,655.06
Month: £971.26

This is using just standard values for any additionals and doesnt include pension or student loans of anything like that.

If You've been there since october last year then you technically currently owe approx:

Tax: £237
NI: £209.60

As for paid holiday for your hours...

The statutory entitlement is 238 hours and 0 minutes holiday.

The employer:
can include bank and public holidays as part of the statutory entitlement
must not round down the holiday entitlement, but may round it up
must provide holiday pay during the statutory leave
can provide more paid holiday - this will be in the employment contract and is called ‘contractual leave entitlement’

So approx 79.3 Hours paid leave.

I'd definatley be checking if your Tax and NI have been paid coz thats a fair chunk tbh.
The holidays, you getting "someone" to cover is nowt to do with you, what if you send some random in and they ransack the place and leave?

You have no form of contract whatsoever no?
They've never mentioned Tax/NI or anything about you being self employed?
