Official EQ Landmark alpha starts today

Whats the difference between Everquest Next and Everquest Landmark?
some of the stuff players make will be in everquest next

so they get free labour

I'm guessing landmark is going to be the player housing part of the game or something separate from the main game areas?

you call it free labour, I call it persistence. People want things like that to happen. stop being so negative nancy

I'll probably buy into it at some point like when they add monsters purely because I can see my son enjoying this type of game and it's nice to play games with him sometimes.
we had a blast with minecraft.

I guess it's hard to go wrong with something like landmark unless the devs make some ridiculous decisions.

I hope the grind right now is only because there's so little content and they want people to be testing everything as much as possible

When I first heard about this I honestly thought landmark was the backend world builder tool that was going to be slapped on with everquest, but now it seems they've made a product out of it that stands by itself as well as being in EQN to build stuff? Still confused about their end game plans for it, I thought it was a builder that came out early for a bit of fun until it was added on to the actual game.

But paying for it (and not next) at those prices for something that'll be F2P, very clever.

I got impatient and opted for the Explorer pack so I managed to have a go at it last night.

The NDA has been lifted so I can happily say stuff about it but suffice to say, I like it, having never played Minecraft so I can't really compare. Nothing seems handed to you on a plate, you do have to work at it.

The Devs seem active and open about the existing flaws and yes it's buggy but you know, I'm actually looking forward to logging in tonight to have another go.

people are paying upto $100 they should at least be able to get in the game and play what's available with minimal issues, you have a responsibility for your customers.

Speaking as a developer myself, an Alpha is probably the first version of the code that's ever compiled fully into an .exe If you think whats there is going to have minimal issues then you just blew 100.

cmon... it's a F2p game.
they are charging for alpha access that won't even give access to everquest next so we can assume another expense to get into the alpha of that.

they have a commitment to the customers even the features that are supposed to be there appear to be broken from the videos I watched.

seem to be repeating ourselves here, but that's the point of alpha. You want stable? wait for finished, should know the definition of these terms before committing to it, besides, they are happy to offer full refunds.

Discovered today that you don't need to keep clicking the left mouse button in order to harvest, just hold the button down.....(silly, I know!)

It's widely known that there's not a lot of room to lay down a claim right now, new servers coming soon.

So, what do you do if you have no claim and a bit of time?

This! :D (you're not supposed to be able to build in unclaimed land but it works near the Spires ;) )

In other words so many people paid to play the alpha that they need new servers..............No wonder developers treat us like idiots! Half the gaming world clearly are.

Im curious, do you think everything should be f2p, which is new school OR nobody should invest in the development of a game but the devs no matter how interested they are, which is old school?

Just paid for march beta by which time some major issues should be sorted. Cost me all of 13 quid omgwowzamosh! Unlike most 'alphas' this clearly is one so weighing that against the point at which i reckon i would want a go, two months sounded good.
