Hello,

This is my 1st post in a very long time , due to my new busy career.

This also means I'm out of the PC hardware loop and I would like some upgrade advice form the OCUK community.

I recently bought a couple of survival games after a FPS dry spell (2 years), such as Rust and Day Z.

SO, i would like to improve my PC's gaming performance.

I'm thinking of upgrading the Graphics card and the Ram only (but open to other suggestions too).
I have around £200'ish to spend, so what would be the best possible thing to do?

Cheers :)

My specs are outlined below.

* QuadCore AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 965, 3400 MHz (Titan Fenrir Evo CPU Cooler)
* 2 x 2GB OCZ Gold XTC OCZ3G1600LV2G DDR3
* Asus M4A79XTD EVO 790X Socket AM3 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard
* ATI XFX HD 4890 1024MB GDDR5 (with Zalman VF1000 Cooler)
* OCZ Agility 3 240GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (AGT3-25SAT3-240G)
* Windows 7 64-bit OS
* Antec TwelveHundred Case

probably a GPU upgrade as the 4890 is pretty dated, also could overclock your CPU for extra performance.

I think the best possible thing to do would be to save up a bit more money and then sell your current setup minus the SSD, then start again with the money you have after all that.

Otherwise you could upgrade your GPU for the time being, but your platform is a bit dead-end I'm afraid. I suppose you could look for a used 6 core Phenom II and a used GTX670, you might just squeeze that into £200. :)

But then there is the issue of the RAM. You'd preferably want another 4GB.

+1 best route.

Upgrade GPU to 270 (or 270X), job done :)

Edit: As others say your system, is a bit behind. Personally I think the above would be enough and low effort but a complete 2nd hand system might be another option.

Cheers for the advice. I had A feeling the sell up and start again option may appear. I take it ebay is once again my friend :)

£200 would get you a 270x or with an extra 30-50 you could pickup a 280x.

A 270x might be better suited for you while putting any left over cash towards upgrades in other areas.

So if I upgrade to a 270x eg http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-123-GI&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1982

What sort of Ram should I get? Im looking at 2x 4Gb DDR3 Dual-Channel - PC3-12800. Is that the right ram for my MOBO? (sorry if this question seems obvious).
