mobiles/tablets from China?

dual sim version of the moto g is only a few quid more, look in the moto g to find out where someone on here bought theirs from.

imo you would be mad not to get the moto g as it's ridiculously cheap for what it is compared to a lot of phones which are overpriced in comparison.

The Moto G looks ok but it's 4.5", I haven't had a phone smaller than 5" since the 1st Galaxy Note was released and even 4.7" feels too small for me.
My hands are big...I can happily use my current 5.7" screen one handed like most people use iphones!

Also just realised no microSD slot........its a deffo nono!

interesting

how does a dual sim phone work? do both run at the same time? or do you need to flick a switch to switch between the two sims so only one is active at any one time?

if only one works at any one time, thats pretty pointless then as what if someone is trying to call or text you on the other sim whilst your using the other your going to miss a lot of calls and stuff.

what happens if someone is calling one number whilst you are phoning from the other? etc

may look into this for my next phone if it works like it should, if you need to flick between the two then no point.

are there any disadvantages? other than having to tell people you have 2 numbers, etc.

Both of my sims are active at the same time, my personal EE sim does the 3G and data while my work Virgin sim is 2G only.

When I receive a call on one the other sim gives an engaged tone, I can set separate ringtones etc for each sim and whenever you place a call the popup appears asking me which number I want to use to make the call or text.

This can be changed in menu within which there are other options as well. See screenshots below.

New sim management menu, notification bar also shows both sims active.

I'm just waiting for the Red Rice 2 to come out. It should have a 1080p IPS screen\Octa-core Cpu and it has MIUI OS.

@AlecR star phones are not star phones! they are rebranded what ever they get cheap. Get a phone that is supported.

i'm more intrigued by the double ovivo sim setup obviously than 2 paying 2 bills per month.

once you have used up your data on one sim do you just change a setting in the menu to make use the other sims data?

or is second sim 2g only and zero data?

I have owned an Oppo Find 5 for quite some time. Brilliant bit of kit, however lacking in the power department these days with it's Snapdragon 400 SoC. Still a very fast phone for everyday use though.

Mine runs a custom Cyanogen Android 4.2.2 build and runs it so sweetly. Sadly I'll be looking elsewhere soon because I really need a 4G phone.

On mine yes, I just go into the menu change the active 3G sim. Done.

On mine you can chose which sim to use when I call or text, no need to go to settings it's all there ready to chose.

What phone\rom do you have?

wow now that is something I would be interested in.

Why aren't more people using this? That is literally the best thing I have ever heard of. I'm genuinely impressed.

The only issue I have is that I have just bought new phones for me as well as my wife and in laws. So to go out again and now buy double sim phones for everyone would be crazy to do atm, even though I would get most of my money back on my current phones.

I will need to come back in say 10 months time and then I will need some help on what are all the different decent double sim phones out at that time.

I would be looking to replace 2 x Nexus 5's and 2 x Moto G's, so I would be looking for bang for buck phones which are better than those 2 models but double sim.

More people should be talking about this (the double ovivo setup) on here.

Lots of E1 roms :( See if you can find a MIUI OS version for your phone.

EDIT=There are Miui roms for it :) and others...

The only problem with custom roms is I fear the dual sim functionality being broken or having some bugs.

It works so seamlessly on the Acer stock rom and if I'm honest this has been the most reliable phone I've ever owned.
I've owned it since last August and it's never once crashed, locked up or forced closed on me, I certainly couldn't claim that on the HTC One or Samsung S3 that I had before it.

The 2 areas that need improvement though are the battery life as it's only got a 2300mah batt in there, if I give it some stick I can only just get through a day.

The GPS could also be better as it's accuracy is not as good as the Samsung or HTC's I've owned.

The double sim ovivo option could be great, what kind of data speeds do you get?

It could save a student around £180 pa, I'll mention the option to my kids they're both needing new phones and at their age 180 is tangible.

the things I would change on my P780 (or its successor) are

new Qualcomm SoC - never gonna happen, as they use MTK or Intel, not so much for the speed, but more for even better battery life and faster GPS locks

both SIMs 3G, or even better LTE - not gonna happen any time soon, at least the LTE bit

stock untouched Android - never gonna happen

I paid £150 for the phone, I wouldn't mind paying 100 more if it had all this.

if you had to switch from a moto g to a double sim phone what one would you go for? has to be same spec or better.

if you had to switch from a nexus 5 to a double sim phone what one would you go for? same spec or better as above.

don't want to downgrade but i don't want to spend thousands either.

i'm totally lost though in regards to what is a decent manufacturer which shall support the phone with constant updates.

or should i just stick to nexus range and hope they bring out a dual sim version in future?
