A bunch of you guys here seemed to enjoy the blog posts I wrote about North Korea a couple of years ago so I thought you might like the write ups I'll be doing on my trip last week to Somaliland, an independent state within in Somalia :).

I've just put the first one up now;

edit: Next instalment on the cave paintings as Laas Geel;

North Korea and Somalia? Brave man!

Gaza Strip next?

Lol, my friend did look into it but the only real way in is with a journalism or charity connection. He found a charity that would sort the permits but decided it wasn't worth the risk.

The next "dodgy" place I'm looking into is the Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan as I'll be cycling past the border post when I ride through Tajikistan. Might just pop into the border town for a day as the visa is only £20. On the other hand though I just want to visit some normal places for a bit!

I'll hopefully be in Iran and Turkmenistan next month but they aren't that unusual.

That's pretty rad :) (you also need a proof reader because typos into rad just don't go).

I know I'm terrible with it! I usually go over a post a couple of times but they still creep in.

Is it Somalialand you're going to or actually lawless Somalia? At least in Somalialand the 'government' takes steps to protect travelers with armed escorts.

Visiting Turkmenistan would have been more fun when Saparmurat Niyazov was still alive/in power ;)

I think they still treat him like is / is ?

one of my friends worked there for a few years - I love the massive gold statue that points at the sun :D

4th tallest flagpole in the world too!

Somalia would be interesting - pretty kidnappy kind of place depending where you go

Can't understand why would you want to go to that crapfest of a country? At least NK is weird and interesting, Somalia is literally just a crap hole of poorness and people killing eachother.
