Hello all

Didn't see another thread regarding this phone which looks like it's in the pipeline.

No hotlinking - Davey

HTC M8 is the codename for the next-generation flagship device expected from the Taiwanese company, a follow-up to the award-winning HTC One. We first heard the M8 codename in July 2013 and it makes sense, as the 2013 HTC One was codenamed M7.

New HTC One specifications

A number of rumours have pointed to the specs that the M8 may bring with it. The first run matched our own early predictions, with serial leaker @evleaks suggesting that the HTC M8 would have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 pixel display (440ppi).

This has subsequently been followed up with the HTC M8 bagging an AnTuTu benchmarking score. Revealed in the process is a run down of the specs for the tested device. Those again include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and mention of that 5-inch Full HD display.

We're pretty certain by this point that it will be a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB of RAM. The scheduled timeline for launch is probably too early for the Snapdragon 805, which Qualcomm says will appear in the first half 2014.

It's great to see they've focused on an even more powerful CPU in this release, I must say I'm always finding my HTC One slow.

Said nobody ever. Enough with the ever increasing speed already, focus on battery tech. The ONLY complaint I have my HTC One is that the battery barely lasts a day. It is otherwise beyond criticism, instantly responsive and perfectly performing.

I don't want a faster one, I want one that lasts longer.

HTC One S user here - can't really fault the phone and the camera on it is fracking awesome.

Will be interested to see what they come up with as the mid-upper range offering in this line :)

The Snapdragon 800 is newer and faster yet consumes less power than the current Snapdragon 600. Also there is no word on the battery yet so it could be paired with a larger 2600 mAh battery.

Really liked my HTC One, but did start to find the storage restrictive and the battery life simply not enough for a full day. I want my phone to last from around 6am to 11pm with not too restricted use, and found the HTC was rarely making this.

Shame, as it was a beautiful phone, plenty powerful enough and a fabulous display. I liked the camera and shots I took, and found the audio really great too.

I have defected to the darkside of Samsung with Galaxy Note 3, but as much as I like the N3, I did like Sense.....

I have to agree Fox, I've ditched mines in favour of a Lumia 1020 just now (couldn't resist at £355 new) and messing about with Windows Phone for the forseable.

I will say however that when I changed over to 4G I found the battery to last A LOT longer, possibly as in my office it was constantly searching for an 3G connection whereas 4G is a lot more stable and my battery life showed that.

If the leaked picture is anything to go by though it looks much the same which is rather underwhelming.

And perhaps slightly smaller screen... What is this obsession with bigger screens? Although perhaps its because they need bigger devices to house the batteries of more power hungry chips...

More companies need to follow the (new) Sony model and release a top end device with a smaller screen.

See i couldn't disagree more, it's all personal preference. 4.7" is too small for me, I'd like them to go the LG route and squeeze the bezels down to nothing and up the screen diagonal to 5.2".

I think the best of both worlds would be to see the "mini" versions of the flagship phones shipping with the same insides. The likes of the S4 mini and HTC One bear little resemblance to their bigger brothers.

Snapdragon 800 is brilliant for battery life.

Makes such a difference.

Right now on the Z1C , i've got 79% left, 7hrs 34mins total and 1hr 36 mins on screen time. Done great today.

It's a 2 day battery life.

People get similar results with the Z1 and G2, both Snappy 800s.

I personally would prefer slimmer bezels. I reckon HTC could easily have fitted the soft touch buttons either side of the bottom speaker on the one. That would free up a lot more screen space.

I can confirm the S800 is excellent on battery, this is the result from my Z1

To be fair screen time probably wans't much more than 4hrs but with normal usage I can quite comfortably get 2 days use which I've not experienced from a smartphone since getting a Z1. Btw this is from a 3000 mAh battery.
