I'm going to an event in London at Scala on Saturday night and meeting a few people for some drinks.

Are there any recommended bars around the area of Kings Cross station / Pentonville road / Euston road / Grays Inn road?

I usually go in The Big Chill before gigs at Scala.

The Somers Town Coffee House is where I go around there if I want a nice pub though.

King Charles perhaps. Plenty of nice places around the stations, but they are a bit too civil I think.

Went there once based on a real ale recommendation and was disappointed that the beer wasn't that good. Suppose it could have just been a one off/bad luck.

You were lucky. Last time I was there I was chatted up by some old, vagrant type from Norn Iron. Came back from the bog and he was mixing his drink into mine. I asked wtf he was doing and he admitted he was trying to get me drunk I like to think he wanted my clean shirt.
