Hi all,

Anyone with experience of the M25 in the morning? I've got to get to heathrow by 8am tomorrow and am thinking that driving/getting a cab around the M25 is asking for trouble.

Might just struggle on the train/tube tbh as it'll most likely be quicker, if more awkward..?

You've kind of answered your own question

I have little experience of driving on the M25 at that time in the morning, so was hoping someone might chime in with "it'll be ok" or "avoid like the plague". I'm merely speculating. :)

It's shocking unless you're going early hours of the morning, anything around peak times will be a nightmare.

It's basically a car park for most of the day.

Should have gone down today and stayed over night in a hotel, that way if you got to hotel late there wouldn't have been a problem.

I do that journey a couple of times a week: if you go anywhere near peak times then it is guaranteed to be absolutely awful. I tend to go through London, because although the traffic is just as bad, it's a shorter distance and you can always take a slightly different route if there's an accident or roadworks.

M25 will be a nightmare especially in the morning, a few weeks back i had to drop my brother off to Gatwick, his flight was leaving at 11am but we left my place at 6am. Good thing too as we got stuck in the traffic on the M25, was horrendous as they has closed 3 lanes and only had one lane etc.

Best off taking the tube or take the A406 North Circular road, you will get traffic but not as much as the M25.

To get there for 8am from Dartford I'd leave at 530am at the latest. Remember the Clacket lane services area is full of roadworks and that corner with the M20/M26 is very slow.

Nah, the A406 is equally horrible in the mornings normally due to roadworks.

It will be FUBAR'd from the crack of dawn onwards tomorrow as no-one believes the Tube will be back to normal before 12 noon.

Traffic is normally a lot lighter on Friday morning's so you'll be OK. I'd heed other people's advice and leave at 5:30 though - oh and check the traffic before you leave, if there's an accident or other incident forget it, avoid the whole area.

Go clockwise (southbound) not northbound and you'll be better off.

But either way take the train if you can.

With no traffic it can only take 1 hour 15 minutes to get from Dartford to Heathrow, when the traffic is awful during peak times it can take up to 2 hours, I would allow 3 hours to get there :p

Cheers chaps, I'll leave super early. Tubes are likely to be up the spout so I'll have to hang around the airport like a lemon for a while. :)

Last time, it took most of the morning to return to a normal service as the rolling stock wasn't in the correct starting positions when the service began.
