A little stuck - I'm trying to find an iphone 5c in yellow for my o/h, but I'd rather buy up front than pay for a contract and she'd like to stay with Giffgaff so we continue to get free texts and minutes to the rest of our families.

I've found some on ebay for ~£400, but I'm a little sceptical as I've heard stories of people buying second hand only to find the phone reported as stolen and then locked by an insurance claim.

Failing that, there's Amazon (£400) or apple themselves at £460 ish.

Is there anywhere I haven't looked? Giffgaff uses the O2 network, so it'd need to be either locked to O2 or completely unlocked.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Check out AVForums classifieds section, they always got a load on sale over there, very good site and trustworthy (sellers have feedback systems like ebay)

Thanks - have had a look and can't see any atm.

Thinking about going with THIS seller - reckon it's worth it to save £45, or should I go straight from apple?

Thanks!

That seller sells Chinese models, not UK models. Played this 5C eBay game and it's a bit of a pain. I got lucky and bagged a 5C for £430 or so...with AppleCare. Purchased from the Apple Store so fully unlocked.

Ask lots of questions and try and pick up a device that has been purchased directly from the Apple Store. Otherwise you'll end up with foreign devices, locked devices, or devices that lock to the first network that is used with no easy way of getting them unlocked (apparently).

bugger - just bought one from that ebay seller. Is the fact that it's a chinese model likely to be a problem? Will look at cancelling if so - thanks for pointing it out!

It'll work fine, but Apple wont touch it if it goes wrong.

DSR has you covered if you don't want it.

If apple won't touch it then the seller will be getting a strongly worded email, since the description of this product states: "This iPhone is brand new & is supplied boxed with a 12 month manufacturer's warranty". I'd like to see them argue their way out of that one...

Why buy a plastic iPhone rather than the iPhone 5?

The iPhone 5 has been discontinued, and I'd rather not try and find a mint condition used model so it was between the 5s or the 5c. I think the 5s has taken the shiny/matte contrast slightly too far and looks cheap and tacky, which is a shame for such a high end handset. It's for my girlfriend who's big on bright colours, and a yellow phone suits her perfectly. I'm not sure if the 5c lacks any features of the 5s, but given that this is her first smartphone and I'm still using a 3gs I doubt there's anything it can't do!

Thanks for all the help :).
