Making a stand against PPI cold calls

Phone the company back and ask them if they've ever had ppi on a loan, mortgage or credit card. Then do it every 5mins for the next 2hrs :)

I usually press the buttons on the call right up to the point they answer then say brb and walk away leaving the phone off the hook :)

Do much the same, tell them I'll be back and ask them to wait. Then just put the phone next to the tv or radio that is usually on.

Had one that guy that was rather persistent and listened to an entire episode of topgear before he hung up. They waste my time, I'll happily waste theirs.

I once visited the call centre from which I was cold called and caused a huge scene.
Security were called, it was beautiful.

It wasn't strictly premeditated you understand, more "I'm in Cardiff tomorrow, I've got an hour to kill, why not?"

It should be illegal all this cold calling, bunch of vultures praying on the weak to sell crap no one wants. Biggest pieces of **** around those cold calling guys, worse than drug dealers - at least drug dealers serve an actual purpose.

Same as the cold calls trying to get you to claim for whiplash or injuries, I've been getting about 1 call every couple of weeks to that note for about the last year since I was involved in a very minor collision (someone bumped into my car from behind at some lights travelling about 1mph)... It's always a with-held number, and it's always a woman with a very thick scouse accent who says pretty much the same thing, but the name of the company is a different fake name every time...

I hardly get any anymore, if its the same number I recognise I usually say "This is Detective Madeupname, Mr TheLegendOfMart has passed away" and every time I've done it they usually apologise or just hang up and never ring back.

I get that its illegal to impersonate a police officer but getting sick of cold calls and obviously I'd only use it if I knew 100% it was a cold call, having your number ex-directory and on the TPS means nothing to these morons.

Calls from unknown numbers rarely get answered. Cold calls that do get through just get left connected without an answer. I hear that a tuning fork works a treat as well.

I might quit my job to become a drug dealer. At least I aint dealing with consumers & sell something that is actually useful.

Who actually buys anything from a cold caller anyway? If i want or need a service, i will actively seek it myself having researched the market in my own time along with all combinations of deals or offers.

When my wife receives a cold call all she says to them is that she is on the tps and shouldn't be receiving these calls, they hang up straight away when she asks for their company name.

The number of calls I receive on my mobile that are 0843, 0845 or others is horrendous and I just don't answer them.

.

That is likely more to do with the fact that they are reading scripts to as many people as possible in the hope that some idiot bites. Your call is a waste of time to them hence them hanging up.

Old people.

I get loads of PPI calls on my mobile, it's when I switched to EE, never had problems before, the woman who must have owned my number before me in Scotland must have had PPi and lots of debt.

The irony of the PPI mess is that the government made it an industry with the way it legislated about the whole thing. Essentially what they have done is said everyone is entitled to a refund who ever purchased PPI but we are going to create a middle man industry to profit from this which gives the tax man a nice juicy chunk of the dosh. If instead they had just said to the banks you know exactly who paid you what between these dates now refund it the middle man would have never existed everyone would have got the money back even if they forgot about ever paying it and we wouldn't get a million automated calls a week. Oh but the tax man would miss his cut then silly me!

Back on topic I like that idea OP I'll be pressing 5 every time from now on time is cheap and I shall enjoy costing these companies some cash :)

You'll meet all kinds of people and make a lot of money providing a service that is wanted by consenting adults and not pushed upon them.

This is what I'm saying, the only people who buy from cold callers tend to be vulnerable groups, not just thick/ slow people but old folks, invalids, the mentally unstable.

It's a disgusting practice, shouldn't be allowed.

I mean if we are going to allow it I reckon the telemarketer should give their personal number so you can call them up and waste their time. Maybe a home address so you can mail them turds in the post as well, make up for all the crappy door to doors that come through.
