2366 Meters Underground

One big issue for some miners, I think diamond miners in SA, is tuberculosis and also HIV/AIDS. Once the miners are infected they often are sent home to far away from the mines, and stop taking the drugs, helping to spread the disease. 500$ a month apparently

There's a film- they go to die.

Tuberculosis is a problem but all the main legitimate mining company's frequently screen and provide treatment for this, HIV on the other hand is a big problem everywhere in South Africa and unfortunately most cannot afford the anti virals needed, from what i was told the illegal miners or locally known as the Zama Zamas take women down with them as they stay underground for years at a time and this leads to HIV spreading very fast amongst them :(
