Rust has started to appear on out towel rail in our bathroom. I have started using WD 40 so far it has removed a couple of areas but there are still too many areas to cover.
I have already tried with white vinegar and its not that great.

Has anyone got anything that I could use to instantly remove the rust?

I've had a bit of a success using a paste made from baking soda and water. Let it for a while to set before scrubbing clean.

OP didn't mention chrome but stainless steel!!!!!!

Where did you get that from......

Lost a paragraph somehow & I didn't realise it.:o

Because stainless steel doesn't rust ;)

Wrong, the low grade like 304 stainless steel can rust, whereas the higher grades are less likely, If stainless steel been through the 'passivation process' it is more corrosion resistant.

Autosol if its polished stainless. If its brushed then some fine wirewool.

I'd have thought they would have used the non rusting grade of stainless for a product that is supposed to come into contact with damp towels .

You could try cleaning it with a bit of baby oil as this is supposed to leave a film that helps protect the steel. Plus keeping damp towels off it and just using it to warm dry towels.

I suppose using an electrolysis bath is out? I actually have a bath I built for about £50 you could very easily do a rad in :D

Wet and dry it then polish it up with high grade wet and dry (wet sand) then metal polish, or just paint it (more likely to stop the rust coming back as well).

Oh and WD40 isn't exactly great for rust removal, it's a mild penetrating fluid at best and is likely to bring the rust back.

wow thanks for everyone who has commented. I will look into a couple of ways that have been listed. If anyone else has other ideas I would love to know them.
