Hello. first time posting in this section.

My sister is looking for a "new" car after selling her BMW 318 couple months ago (cars history is following: Pegeou 206, WV punto, WV Bora, Skoda Octavia 2005, BMW 318 1.8 diesel 2005.)

I believe here are car experts who can give an idea on best car at this price mark: Make/ model and why.
Ideally under 10 years old, up to 2.0, and she wants diesel.

Will update info bit later once I am on computer.

Thanks

For £1000 you don't get a choice IMO.

It's the first solid car you find with tax and an MOT that won't cost a fortune to run.

Vauxhaul corsa/astra
Ford focus mk 1
Golf mk 4

Can't think of much else within budget.

I would put a search into Auto Trader.
Max price £1200 and search by distance - see what pops up.

You could even try max price £1500 to allow a bit of bartering room.

A sub 10 year old diesel for a grand?

Yea, good luck with that. It's going to yield only complete junk unless you get something older.

That Bora she had sounded fine, why did she get rid?

My car cost more than that, it is a 12 year old base spec Polo with a petrol engine.

The budget simply isn't big enough.

The only way you'll be getting a ten year old diesel for that kind of money is if its something like an ex taxi Octavia with hundreds of thousands of miles. It won't end well

Its currently going for £1200, which is in budget. It may go for more, but may not.

I thought we'd discounted that diesel was pointless within this budget.

The OP hasn't returned yet. They would probably have to consult their sister first, and she might decide to up her budget rather than getting a petrol.

If she drops the sub 10 years requirement, a Peugeot 406 diesel might suit. And if she drops the diesel requirement, a Mondeo 2.0 would likely be better.

Pretty much but a short list of possible candidates is fine. I used to make up a list by insurance grade and then of course I had preference for the best performance and off I went to auction to buy the best I could on the day. One time I got dam lucky, well researched lists are good.

If you dont know exactly what you want, you'll end up being sold what someone else wanted you to buy and it'll suck usually

Bit puzzled why she ditched either 05 plate VW or BMW to replace with a £2k budget, were they shagged out or something?
