I currently have a 1 series but would like something a bit bigger, Ive been looking at the f30 3 series but im slightly torn, I am only 24 do you think the 3 series is a bit too grown up for a 24 year old who admittedly still looks around 15?:D I don't want people to think its my dad's car lol.

I have got my eye on this one local to me what do you guys think?

You have told us nothing about it.

Looks like a fairly poor spec 320d auto. Not a bad car but nothing amazing either. I cant see why at 24 you would want to blow 20 grand on that. You will look back and think 'doh'.

So it's a 318 D Sport, you need to tell us more about the car such as mileage, age costs, extras etc.. and how many miles you do per annum before anybody will be able to comment.

In terms of what people think, who cares, it's your car and you purchased it cause you like it not them!

It's a 318d?

Seriously, don't. I'm going to guess that, at 24, £20k represents a lot of money. More money now than it will in the future. Don't blow it on a generic 318. If you must throw £20,000 into cars then do it in such a way that it gives you something that feels worth it every time you drive it. A 318d wont do this, its just 'a nice enough car'.

If you are borrowing £20k to buy this car then why not just not borrow anything and buy a £5k 330i?

its a 2012 BMW 318d Sport 8 speed Auto

29,000 miles full BMW Main Dealer Service History.

17 months BMW warranty left

18" light alloy wheels (double-spoke style 397).
High gloss shadowline exterior trim.
Sun protection/privacy glass.
Folding rear head restraints.
Split folding rear seats.
Automatic Gearbox (switchable).

i do around 30k per year

ive currently got a 120d m sport but as i say i would like something bigger, i don't drive fast i feel the 120d is more than enough for me so no doubt i would be fine with a 318d.

I don't really like older models i think they look and feel a bit dated not bad if your a petrol head and appreciate them for their engineering etc but im not really a petrolhead, i duno i just like to have the lasted things, like when a new iphone comes out even though its no that much different to the old model i hate not having the latest one lol. Also having a car less than 3 years old with bmw warranty is nice, i don't like the feeling that an older car gives where any day it may not start or something could brake at anytime which can be really inconvenient and take ages to get fixed, i know new car's are not 100% reliable but the risk is reduced significantly.

I want something pretty new that's a nice cruiser to waft along in ive always been a fan of bmw, The 5 series is a bit too big and the 1 series a bit too small, 3 series seems nice, i might look for a diffrent spec one, for some reason not keen on the m sport, i prefer the interior of the m sport but not the bodykit

I like the red trim

But as the Fox said better not to blow it on a 318d, save up for for a better model. Or get something else for 20k, depending on your requirements which you haven't stated ;)

but im not really a petrolhead,

So why spend over £20,000 on a car at the age of 24? Does it not strike you as a massive amount of money to spend on something you are not that bothered about?

So its a bling thing? I do hope for your sake you are on a massive salary for somebody of 24 otherwise you will massively regret spending such huge amounts of cash on generic 'latest model' stuff in a few years time.

It's just a 318d. Nice enough as a company car or perhaps as something to buy as a wealthy 40 year old with a nice house who just wants 'a decent enough car' but spending £20k on something like that now just seems a bit.. bonkers? It's just not worth £20k unless £20k isnt all that much money to you.

If you MUST spend £20,000 on a car then at least buy something really nice that feels like it's well worth every penny you paid for it, not something that you'd be midly dissapointed to receive as a loan car when yours is in for a service :D

Can't say I'd want to drop £20k on that tbh (I'm 43!) my money would be a late e39 M5 and £10k to run it!!

Clearly though, an M or indeed something "special" doesn't appeal to the OP or his driving style I'd imagine, a warranty backed low mileage late model 3 is quite a car for the average 24 year old by a long way (even if it's a 318d), presuming he can afford it, why not?

Not everybody gives a toss about engine size etc seems to me the OP wants a nice car, not bothered about speed etc and does the mileage to warrant a diesel....

Again, not my cup of tea, but good luck to him if it floats his boat!

Yeah was thinking with that mileage requirement it would fit the bill perfectly. Don't want anything thirsty or unreliable.

I'm in the if he can afford it why not camp.

He does do the mileage to warrant a dirty D and if he really can afford to ***** £20k on it then why not.

The 'if he can afford it' point is so meaningless, we can all afford a box of cornflakes priced at 10 quid but that's hardly a good reason to buy such a thing.

I suspect there are many better things a 24 year old could do with 20k than spend it on a 318 regardless of affordability.

At 30k a year it's going to totally plummet in value so his financial risk is significant.

It obviously depends on his circumstances, if he earns 40k a year and has a nice house and no real need for the money then go for it. Otherwise it needs serious consideration.

LMAO, this whilst hilarious. Is very true.

Says the I, who dropped £13K on a 1.5 hybrid with a huge spoiler.

To me anyone with a newish 318 means, Im not quite rich enough to buy a better model.

Listen to the Fox, save your dosh and get better
