What is so great about these cars. I'm looking to grow old and replace the Z4 with an estate and seen good comments about these. Didn't Lewis H or Jenson B get fined for speeding in one?

I didn't like the look or feel of one I saw at the local dealership and they didn't have a 330D to compare it with (Except for a brand new 330D M - which was lovely but probably twice my budget!).

Can anyone explain the 325, 330 335 and the similar 5 series models?

Cheers.

Andi.

Pre-facelift E60 is not the nicest place to be.
Facelift E60 is a lot nicer, but still not a patch on the F10.

E90 Touring is the same as above - pre-facelift nasty. Facelift better.

325d - 3L turbo diesel
330d - 3L turbo diesel
335d - 3l twin turbo diesel

Same goes for the 5 Series except the pre-facelift 525d was a 2.5

What's your budget?

Budget will be up to £25K depending a bit on the value of the Z4MC. (Z4+ £15K maybe).

I'm looking for space and some sort of performance with a bit of economy. My thoughts started at an RS4 but then went a bit bigger and better economy :D

At the end of the day the car will be needed to help with a couple of house moves, maybe three, over the next year or two.

Andi.

Fox - I'm no BMW expert and don't really understand the model sequence (e61 F11 etc). Advice on what to avoid would be great.

Can't help wondering why somebody who can afford £25k for a car can't afford to - or doesn't want to - spend on a removal company for said house move!

I've used my 3 touring for moving, will be doing so again, that said my car cost me £1500 and removal firms, whilst handy and hassle free are a luxury I can't afford otherwise I would use them.....

Or are you helping others move Andi and buying the car with this in mind? - very good natured of you if that's the case!!!

Yes, simply because it isn't going to be a normal move! 1 - son buys house, 2 Dad spends time doing it up, son and GF move in room by room possibly. 3. Dad refurbishes existing house and moves to storage room by room. 4. Sells house and moves in with son. 5. Looks for new house, buys new house, refurbs new house. I've almost considered a Transit ;-)

After all that and when the other half has had enough of working we then move out of the flat in the same manner and sell/rent that out.

There will not be a single move.

25k will just about get you an F11 530d SE. Very good.

I saw a 530D this morning, looked a bit dull but it was really raining hard and the car was on the forecourt. Dealer price too

So this would be an F11? Here.

That's the one.
It's huge - I rented one and accidentally ended up moving all of my GFs stuff. Massive space with the seats down.

It's also a lot better than its predecessor. Can't go wrong with the 530d.
However, make sure it has Adaptive Drive (the comfort/sport buttons next to the gear lever). The ride is just too hard otherwise.
I'd also hold out for comfort seats, pro nav and HUD, but I dunno what's out there are this price range.

That is an F11 but that one is a bit rubbish spec wise, bet it only has business nav. They are generally more expensive than that. Your budget will buy a nice 60 plate I think.

This simply isn't true on both counts-

a) The buttons beside the gear lever are also present on non Adaptive Drive fitted cars with Sports Auto Transmission so are not an indication of Adaptive Drive

b) The ride on an SE F11 without Adaptive Drive is not hard at all. It's perfectly compliant. You do not neccesarily need it fitted to enojy the car, which is fortunate as it's a very rare option.

I'd also hold out for comfort seats, pro nav and HUD, but I dunno what's out there are this price range.

You will be holding out for ever then as HUD is very, very rare. I agree, Pro Nav or nothing, but the HUD, great though it is (And it's great, I actually managed to find an F11 with HUD which has now replaced my fathers E39) is one of the rarest options around.

He's already looking right at the bottom of F11 530d money (Infact in my searching I found they are few and far between sadly) so holding out for rare options like that, or even the comfort seats, is probably not going to be fruitful.

Fair enough mate. :)

The c class is quite a nice car, but it doesn't look like they've moved the game on at all - interior at least since that similar shape first made an appearance.

We had some as co cars at my last place, think they were 2009 cars. Perfectly nice but you'd possibly be as well buying one a few years older than that example if you wanted one

Because it's the same car as those - it came out in 2007 and is being replaced this year.
