Also Anyone Have Any Recomended Vendors Of the 770 and 780 I was looking at Asus And Gigabite Looking on you tube for the fan noises and they sound pretty quiet

Also looked at the ZOTAC they seem pretty quiet but iv never realy heard of ZOTAC before anyone know if their any good ??

Generally much of a muchness, some have better support/RMA/warranty than others i.e. gigabyte and EVGA tend to be much better for UK people to deal with as a generalisation.

I've not had much Zotac stuff but never had any problems with the stuff I have had from them (mostly mini ITX boards/components).

as above, there isn't much to choose between them unless you're spending money on Classified or ASUS DC2. EVGA are great for warranty (especially under water) but as they bin there cards, you're more likely to get a lower clocker.

People tend to be getting very good air clocks with Gigabyte ref cards, so that's where I'd put my money if you're staying with air cooling.

I agree with Rroff on this one, Gigabyte & EVGA seem to be the big players in the UK however it's worth having a look at what KFA2 & Gainward have to offer as OcUk have a special deal with them for fast turn arounds on RMA from what I remember. :)

I miss the days when Gainward was a serious player with some truly innovative cards :| i.e. the GeFarce FX series for their golden sample cards they paired speed binned XT cores with high end memory and seriously uprated cooling so you had a well priced card that still hit top of the line performance and wasn't an embarassement to compare to a 9700/9800pro like the regular 59xx ultras.

I had some great gainward gold sample cards over the years.

As regards of current 770/780 Id also give consideration to MSI, great coolers and never had a problem (had to return one card yet and was quick).

I have just had an RMA with Asus, which took 6 weeks. I would stick with Gigabyte and EVGA and even MSI for a quicker turnaround if you do run into issues. The best warranty cover is the best idea.

None of the stock 780's are 100% silent you can clearly hear the fans when they get hot.

Go for a non stock cooler model like the MSI Twin Frozr range for instance. Now they are 100% at all GPU loads! Or the Gainward Phantom range is another which is always silent.

AFAIK none of the stock 780 HSF's are silent at all when they hit 60% Fan RPM goes up a lot & around 75% its like a vacuum cleaner in your ear!

You can pretty much run the 780 GHZ silent and I assume same for the normal WF3 model - they run well under 70C in normal operation so if you set a temp target of 80C the fan barely comes on. (Unless you stick em in a tiny case or have really bad airflow/ambient temps).

I was Looking At one of the gigabyte flavours i think assasins creed black flag comes with it, any thoughts on the ASUS direct DC i think their called ?????

Assasins creed black flag comes with all the 770/780s.

The asus direct DC2 cooler comes in for some good praise and is only a dual slot cooler...However there are cheaper 780 options.

The EVGA cards with the ACX coolers are excellent. Before i fitted my 750 FTW with the waterblock i looped Heaven for a couple of hours and it was pretty quiet and temps never went over 72 degrees (pc room is small and stuffy with no windows). The best bit is that it's only supposed to boost to 1033mhz but always boosts to 1150mhz without me doing anything to it.

On stock auto fan mine will hit 70c, but my case has shocking air intake. With a custom fan profile it maxes at 64c in games. Still quiet though, tested the setup with a decibel metre, 32db when playing bf4, measured at 3 feet from the case.

The stock Nvidia HSF though at 1-2ft away you can hear the fan once it hits 60% RPM its quite noticeable unless you sit a long way away from the case no fan profile makes any difference its not a quiet HSF above 60% fanspeed IME. GHZ & WF3 models use different HSF's that's why they are silent.

The non ref cards such as gigabyte wf, msi twin frozr etc are pretty quiet. But the disadvantage of them is the heat they dump into the case. In sli (as i can testify to) they can really heat up other components in your system.

The WF3 is fairly audiable at 60% though nothing extreme but I have no idea what you'd have to do to make it get that high other than turning it up manually - even under torture tests the fans on mine don't exceed 38% IIRC.

I very nearly bought the Zotac Amp very powerful card and a 5 year warranty, in the end I opted for the Gainward GLH and very happy the card is so silent hasent gone over 40 degrees for me yet, I don't think there is much to choose between any 780 as overclocking doesnt make a huge differnce in game performance. If it was me get the Gainward GLH you won't be dissapointed anf its German need I say more!

Just had a quick test with my wf, at 60% it's still pretty quiet. Ramped it upto 70%, it is audible but not obtrusively though. At 70% it's reading at 42db with my phone held upto the case. Card temp at idle is 22c, now ive no idea how accurate theese db meter phone apps are though tbh.

I've just bought an Asus 780. Last time I had an Asus was 2years ago. Build quality seems fantastic to me. Vastly quieter than the Palit gtx 670 jet stream it replaced. My 780 idles at approx 30c and has never once gone beyond 80c. That said my case has terrible cooling
