I had to turn most things off and put settings down to medium to achieve what i would call smooth gameplay, was on an overclocked GTX780 at the time. I don't play with FPS counters so no idea what they were, but all i can say subjectively it was unplayable.

Not a graphics whore though matey, so turning settings down has never bothered me :D I like my games smooth.
