hey guys,

im moving home on the 25th and have arranged VM to move my services to my new address on the 26th, while on the phone i asked about adding TV to my package for the missus and my daughter.

however, i budgeted myself to £40 a month for the package, and the only way i could get a good deal was to drop my broadband from 60mb to 30mb.

either way i need a TV package for my daughter as shes growing up i want her to watch child programs to help her learn.

will i notice a difference when gaming? BF4,warface etc?

cheers

Its generally ping (latency) times that matter and they shouldn't be affected by dropping the package.

It'll only be when you're downloading that you'll notice a difference. (Hopefully)

i dont really download a lot tbh, i mite just download all my steam and orgin library before i move :D

but in all seriousness, thats good then, just had a thought about having crappy connections in BF4 etc lol :)

You're crazy! CRAZY! :D

Well no, you'll be fine. 30mb still puts you in the top 5% of online gamers, chances are you'll still hit problems with everyone else's connections before yours becomes a hindrance.

I don't know which TV package you have. I have the basic TiVo and 120mb internet which is upgraded to 150mb all for £52 a month.

For the sake of £12 I know what I would do but it all depends on what you do with it.

While we are on the subject why do we still have to pay line rental if we have a phone and no plans on ever using it?

Fibre doesn't require a phone line

I get by on the 30mb package no problem, although according to my VM account area I'll soon be getting upgraded to 50mb for free and everyone loves a freebie!

If this happens round my way, which it should, I think I will step down.

I am the only one who uses the connection and I'm sure 50mb is fine for general Internet use, a few torrents and a bit of media streaming such as netflix and iPlayer.

How long have you been with VM ... if its more than a couple of years then your 60Mb service would have been 30Mb (or even 20Mb if you were a superhub refusenik) before the last round of speed upgrades.

I've been with VM since the UA days and got cable broadband as soon as it was available so think I've been all the way from 256kb (which was amazingly better than 56kB modem!) to current 60Mb ... TBH since speed went past 10Mb probalbly haven't noticed the speed ups - next speed bump takes us to 100Mb and I'm considering dropping back to 50Mb (or asking VM what inducements they might offer to keep me at 100Mb!) at that point

I would suggest reading books with her rather than plopping her in front of the TV whilst you play video games.
There is nothing for of educational benefit on the TV.

I enjoyed a fair bit of tv when younger and it's done me no harm.

You REDUCED your download speed?! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING? It hurts me to think someone could do something so horrible:(

:p

Likewise, but let's not pretend that it helps you learn.

What? Of course TV helps you learn.

TV inherently provides visual stimuli, a book provides this only after imagination is applied to the words. To get the same level of stimuli through a book you need an already vivid imagination. For some learners it could be argued that the visual stimuli provided by TV is the fuel for a good imagination, basing your memory on visual cues as seen on tv instead of textual could even help develop photographic memory.

Heck I learnt so much stuff watching Pippin and Teletubbies. For example, I probably wouldn't have an interest in aviation if it wasn't for Pippin.

I don't put her in front of the TV and play video games, tbh I don't play a lot in the week, I go to work come home spend time with my family, then when my daughter goes to bed, THEN i play video get while the missus watches her soaps.

Tbh cbeebies seems a lot more educational with counting and letters now then it used to be when I was younger

Couldn't have been worse than what I was put through as a child, Spitting image recorded on VHS.
