Hi, how much would a decent breathalyser cost? Nothing fancy, just need it to be accurate. Are there any decent 'cheap' breathalysers around the market?

The police will give you one for free when they pull you over :D

I picked up one for £40 which seems quite accurate on my experiment with a bottle of goose :)

Is this for your own use in the UK or do you want one for driving in France? If the latter then the one footyslayer has linked will be no good. IOf the former then even one drink slows your reactions significantly so best advice is if your are driving, don't drink at all

With £40 he could go payg with this and have enough change for 70CL Talisker.

Which can only be used once... Whereas for £40 he could pick up the one Footslayer was talking about and use it again and again? There was no mention in his OP or before my post about him using it in France ;)

Or he could just not drive after drinking which is the best advice here unless he is driving in France when he would need 2 of them

Glad this was the first post.

+1

Spend £40 on a taxi and do everyone a favour :p

Why do you assume he wants it to test himself before driving? He may have a small haulage company and needs to test his drivers, or a recovering alcoholic partner he doesn't trust.

What's the problem with driving while under the legal limit? Also, he might just want to use it to check he's okay to drive the morning after a heavy night as alcohol can stay in your system for a surprisingly long amount of time...

I don't drink alkochol, only on weedings and bigger occasions, but very small (symbolic) amounts. I was thinking of buying this as a birthday gift.

Edit

They are about £5

By law you need two for driving in France, so just get one of those.
(conforms to approved NF French standards)

I can't imagine anyone driving a car all the way to France, while being on a hangover.

This will probably get use, when someone had a beer in the morning during weekend. But suddenly in the evening gets an emergency call... I'm just giving an example ;)

the problem is exactly what I said in my post, even one drink SIGNIFICANTLY increases reaction times regardless of whether you are below the legal limit? Legal limit being 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath, 34 would be below the legal limit 36 obviously being above which isn't exactly a huge difference so why is it morally ok to drive at 34 vs. 36?
