Breathalyser

Sorry, but I've asked for some reliable breathalysers, which are also useful... If I feel the need to gain more knowledge about the law, than I'm 99.99% sure THIS website will be the best place.

Edit

I was thinking what to get for someone's birthday, it's hard to think of anything for a person who has everything. Breathalyser seems like a fun and useful present, anyway to me it does...

It's a terrible gift, even not as a gift - It's a terrible item.

It will encourage someone to drink closer to the limit as they think they can self test and be okay. Wrong.

It's a road side SCREENING device. It's not accurate enough to be evidential in court so it's not accurate enough for you to risk your driving licence/life/someone else's life on.

A road side screening sample AND an evidential sample reading presumes that was the lowest reading at the given time. Often the amount actually in the system continues to increase after a sample has been taken. Self testing and getting a 20 reading could turn into a 35 shortly after.

So you can't use it after waking up after a night drinking? Why would it still increase then?

That's the time I would need it. If I'm drinking and driving that night (truth be told, if I know I HAVE to drive somewhere, it means that its probably going to be a long way, and I'd rather have nothing, but for the sake of convenience we'll say a journey comes up), I know exactly how much I've had and can calculate.

After a heavy night of drinking, I might get into bed at 0300, and be awake and driving at 0830. It's harder to calculate if I am over the limit, and would be useful to have a guide.

I'd also suggest that if you know you have to be driving at 0830, going to bed at 0300 is a stupid idea as regardless of the amount you've had to drink, you'll still be very tired. ;)

I want one for a different reason, take it on a night out, set a challenge of who ever is the most sober after an hour buys the next round!. :D

I've got an alcosense breathalyser, and it's a good little device.

I never go out and drink and drive, but I do like to know that I'm completely fine to drive the morning after a few drinks, and this device does just that.

I've thought about picking one up for this before, at 9am I know I'm going nowhere - but past midday I'd like to be sure I'm ok to drive. The problem is, what if the breathalyser says you're ok - and then you get pulled over to test over the limit?

The same thing as happens to everyone else who tests over the limit. ;)

I've actually thought about this, more just out of curiosity really seeing how much is left in the system comparing before/after sleeping from a night out.

I did have one of these cheap little things (got it free or something?), may as well been from a christmas cracker...was so inconsistant. I'd do several readings on the thing and I think when it said I was the most drunk was on one of the sober tests..... go figure. 1 drink...says I'm tipsy....4 drinks later....nah you're sober... wtf? :p

if you are buying one then I'd say may as well see if you can get a reasonably priced one that does conform with the french laws... ya never know when ya fancy a booze cruise across the channel xD

I just shut one eye and hope for the best, if I had too much!!! :p

this made me laugh as it's what my mate does when drunk and trying to work his phone. closes one eye tightly, pretty much squints with the other and holds the phone about 3 inches from his eye trying to focus.... he's a funny mess :p

now that is an idea!! :D :p
