I visit the BBC website a couple of times a day, and typically flash through the headlines. Invariably, this means me accidentally catching football scores/results that I don't want to know, as I'll be watching the matches later.

It's a shame they don't put the results on the dedicated sports page.

I know it's a trivial thing, but numerous times a week it seems match results are spoiled for me by accident on that home page :(

I seem to recall there was a time where you could tailor the homepage so you could remove "sports" if you wanted. Shame you still can't.

I'll maybe just try always use a link to the "News" page so miss out the homepage.

I do that, they end up on there from time to time too.

Clav has the best idea I think, just get the BBC App on your handheld and select "topics" instead.

Even better. More than once I have heard the BBC NW news sportsdude say "if you don't want to know the score, look away now" ... then read them out.

Very rarely use "hand helds" for reading the news; Typically Firefox in from a PC 2-3 times a day.

Shame you can't still tailor the homepage because I'd remove the entire "sport" section for this sole reason.

As it is, I'll just skip the entire homepage (which is annoying) and set my link to go straight to news.

Shame...

Is it not possible that when you create an account that you can tailor it?

I don't know as I don't have or want one. Do you?

You go on a news site and dont expect the news site to be reporting news?

If you want to avoid football results why on earth would you be looking at news sites?

Edit: thinking this through my head....BBC news on TV tell you before the results come up.....you have a slight point >_>

I find it a bit strange when they tell you the scores on BBC News 2 minutes before Match of the Day starts. They don't even give you time to even get off the sofa, your only option is to close your eyes real fast with your hands over your ears!

Surely if someone didn't knows the results they would enjoy watching the highlights much more :)

I've tried... Can't see a way to do it :(

I was half hoping someone here would point a way to do it!

I know it's a technicality, but when I go to the BBC homepage, I don't want to see the football score/results (personally). And as explained, it does spoil matches for me regularly - hence my vent here :)

Personally/ideally, I'd expect to see at most the match mentioned without a result, and if you click it, you go to the dedicated sports page where any/all results can happily be displayed IMHO.

What annoys me more is the sudden switch in the news like such...

All BBC News Reporters said:
... fight in Syria left 8 dead Lewis Hamilton won today's Formula 1 race ...

That really grinds my gears!

At least for Football they typically give the "if you don't want to know the results look away now" talk which gives you a few seconds to reach for the remote to mute or change channel.

Well you kinda brought it on yourself...

Surely you are 10x more likely to have the result spoiled by a colleague at work discussing it within earshot.

Arguably the BBC doesn't really give you it, to be honest, you're hard pressed to find a new source which isn't a political tool or just sensationalist codswallop these days.

That's why I always read the Daily Mail. Good honest-to-goodness unbiased unsensationalist reporting. I wish more news outlets were that way.

How come they always do the "If you don't want to know look away now" thing for soccer, but not for any other sports?

Oh and this!

they do this with formula 1 as well. The result is plastered all over the front page before they've shown the highlights. It wouldn't be hard for them to have a "reveal" panel.
