play station plus worth it?

If you own a PS3, Vita and a PS4 it's a no brainer really.

You get 5+ free games every month for £2.50 a month.

Some games change yearly, others monthly. So you do get more than just 5 a month.

Drive club will be free from launch albeit a lite version, I don't see MS offering that sort of quality for free so quickly as Sony. IMO it is a superior service.

MS are getting better (don't forget that Sony didn't give away stellar games at the start of Ps+), and will be launching the service for Xbox One this year.

Whereas PS+ is offering PS4 games right now, and historically the games given out in the 'Games With Gold' scheme have been old and/or rather poor. As you say though, they're beginning to improve what's being offered but it doesn't really change the state of the situation at the present.

Why, what extras does PS+ give that XBL doesn't?

Scheduled updates/downloads, for a start.

I'm looking at the services as they will be for the rest of the console life of the PS4/XB1.

You can't throw the vita in because MS don't have a similar device to offer free games on.

So Sony have PS3/PS4 and MS have 360 (and will launch an XB1 service) in my eyes now both services are pretty comparable for extras.

I get that for free with my Xbox One. :p

Thanks for the replies everyone. I went and bought a years PS+ last night and have already installed Metro: Last Light which I have had my eye on for a while now ever since it came out. :)

You need to make sure you buy the games and checkout properly on your account to make sure you keep them until your sub runs out. You have to do this whilst the games have been reduced to free, so if you didn't buy them whilst they were free you don't get them to keep.

I only have a 80GB PS3 so I can't install everything all at once. I found out that if I click buy and then start the download and immediately cancel it, when I go back to the Instant Game Collection page the games are listed as "purchased" instead of free. Is that enough to tie them to my account for the duration of my subscription and I can install them as I like?

You can throw in the Vita and it's pretty much another optional extra Sony offer. I love the free Vita games I get each month and opens me up to games I would potentially not normally buy/play.

You can't dismiss it from the PSN+ vs Live due to Microsoft not have a comparable device.

+1

that's like saying you may as well dismiss the fact that Kinect is bundled in with the XB1

Vita games are bundled in with PSN Plus therefore it is a part of the service

Did Microsoft give a lite version of killer instinct for free?

I reckon it will be around £10-£20 to upgrade to the full game, unlike £35 for killer instinct.

also killer instinct is a beat em up, the development skill and time taken to produce drive club would dwarf that taken to make killer instinct.

it's a far superior offering

Not really.
For Xbox we've had so far this year:
Toy Soldiers: Cold War
Dead Island
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Sleeping Dogs

PS+:
DmC Devil May Cry (PS3) – January 29th
Remember Me (PS3) – January 29th
Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed (PS Vita) - January 29th
BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend (PS Vita) – January 29th
GTA Liberty City Stories (PSP) – January 29th
Don’t Starve (PS4) – February 5th
Resogun (PS4) – February 5th
Entering the Instant Game Collection

Metro Last Light (PS3) – January 29th
BioShock Infinite (PS3) – January 29th
Dynasty Warriors Next (PS Vita) – January 29th
ModNation Racers: Road Trip (PS Vita) – January 29th
Outlast (PS4) – February 5th

Quite simply the games from Games With Gold have been extremely poor compared to PS+.

Say what? Why not quote the games from the start of PS+ not just this year. :p

I think he's asking for when PS+ literally started, so before the IGC
