Minor annoyance with BBC website - Football scores/results spoiled!

What annoys me more is the sudden switch in the news like such...

That really grinds my gears!

At least for Football they typically give the "if you don't want to know the results look away now" talk which gives you a few seconds to reach for the remote to mute or change channel.

Ha, I wish they bothered with that over here. They are particularly bad on the radio. Saturday is a day spent fumbling for the volume controls before they give out the latest score on at least a half-hourly basis.

"...and that was Bruno Mars with ooh! 2-0 to United, Van Persie in the 92nd minute!!..."

I normally browse BBC News most days at lunchtime as follows > front page > uk > biz > politics > education > health > tech and I don't recall seeing sports results with the exception of an England win in Olympics or Euro/world cup. Occasionally a sports-related incident will appear on the front page like that quenelle gesture that got the lefties' knickers in a twist.

they do this with formula 1 as well. The result is plastered all over the front page before they've shown the highlights. It wouldn't be hard for them to have a "reveal" panel.

Oh god this - if it's a sunday and the race is on the tv after it's been run I have to have a full on hiatus from forums, twitter/facebook, any news website, tv, radio, literally have to walk around with my fingers stuck in my ears going "lalalalaaaaaa" :D

You can do that? Is it as easy as you suggest?
It is indeed, right click any element on a page (be careful where you click) and select "Block this Ad", it will remove the entire div, if you select the wrong one it can be reset in AdBlock settings as it may have some nasty effects on layout depending on the structure of the page.

I assume you mean the front page, bbc.co.uk ? If so, the customisation was taken away as less than 1% of people used that feature. Most people clicked on the stories and missed out on a lot of the other content, hence the redesign. The stories on there are meant to grab you, so scores are click worthy.

Just use the news site, if you want to see what we are working on, you can use this link www.bbc.co.uk/news?view=beta, hit the desktop site link in the footer to back.

If that works, you are my hero!

LOL! :) Tried your link to their main page - http://bbc.co.uk/?view=beta and had the Fulham vs Liverpool result shown to me - Shown in the middle of the whole screen

But the beauty is there is a customise option there so I remove "Sport" at least!

Can't seem to do it :(

I can right-click on an image it offers to block it, but I can't seem to click anywhere around the sports section to block it :(

Gotta jump on the 'If you don't want to know the news, don't check a news site' train... seems really petty to expect them to spoiler everything on a news site.

On devices, using the BBC News app you can do this.

This, with two minor points:
1. The genius' at BBC don't test their articles on mobile devices, so you'll find the occasional story that references a load of media content which isn't there.
2. They have a habit of putting the odd "big" game result in the "Top Stories" section

That said, the Android BBC News App is probably one of my most used, it's pretty good!

I work in the dev team for BBC News website, are there any specific examples you can point out?

At least they don't announce the results, without warning, minutes before the highlights start like they often do with F1 highlights.

They do that every single time. Even worse is the recordings of MotD start 30 seconds before the end of the news, which is sometimes the exact moment that they show the results, so you sit down to watch MotD and the first thing you see is the whole list of results

Hah, small world. There are none on my "Feed" right now, it's normally when one of those "<Thing> in pictures" makes its way onto the App, the text will say "We go over <Thing's> pictures from the last x years", then there's just a blank space underneath where I imagine the multimedia entry should be?

I will happily forward any future ones onto you :p
