Why don't you AdBlock away the div that stores all the football scores on the homepage?
You can do that? Is it as easy as you suggest?

What annoys me more is the sudden switch in the news like such...
That really grinds my gears!
At least for Football they typically give the "if you don't want to know the results look away now" talk which gives you a few seconds to reach for the remote to mute or change channel.

they do this with formula 1 as well. The result is plastered all over the front page before they've shown the highlights. It wouldn't be hard for them to have a "reveal" panel.
It is indeed, right click any element on a page (be careful where you click) and select "Block this Ad", it will remove the entire div, if you select the wrong one it can be reset in AdBlock settings as it may have some nasty effects on layout depending on the structure of the page. You can do that? I assume you mean the front page, bbc.co.uk ? If so, the customisation was taken away as less than 1% of people used that feature. Most people clicked on the stories and missed out on a lot of the other content, hence the redesign. The stories on there are meant to grab you, so scores are click worthy.
Just use the news site, if you want to see what we are working on, you can use this link www.bbc.co.uk/news?view=beta, hit the desktop site link in the footer to back.
I don't recall seeing sports results with the exception of an England win in Olympics or Euro/world cup.

Can't seem to do it
I can right-click on an image it offers to block it, but I can't seem to click anywhere around the sports section to block it![]()
On devices, using the BBC News app you can do this.
This, with two minor points:
1. The genius' at BBC don't test their articles on mobile devices, so you'll find the occasional story that references a load of media content which isn't there.
That said, the Android BBC News App is probably one of my most used, it's pretty good!
At least they don't announce the results, without warning, minutes before the highlights start like they often do with F1 highlights.
I work in the dev team for BBC News website, are there any specific examples you can point out?
