Giving it a try.

"The fat you eat is the fat you wear"

High carb low fat diet.

Wow. When I first read your post I assumed you were being sarcastic

I can't understand how warm it is for February, not sure what its like where you are but I've never ever worn shorts before April before (without leg warmers).

It has been incredibly mild all winter. I'm hoping the temperatures and (relative) dryness will persist for the rest of the year.

At half 6 in the morning, with added wind chill, its pretty damned cold!

On the way home at around 4pm, its not that bad.

On another issue, has anybody got private healthcare with Pru Health? If so have you been able to load activities from a Garmin device to the website? I can't get my 810 to sync properly. Long shot, I know.

I really hope the gym rats don't stumble upon this quote. :p

I've been there done that.
Whey protein.

Low carbs, high protein diet.

Sod them if they do.

Problem is I think I'm getting most of my calories from fat and sugar, a high carb diet isn't as stupid as it sounds.

I have certainly had more energy today than I usually have.

They've seen people just as insane as Durian Rider - Nate Silvers springs to mind.

Most people already eat a high carb diet. There's nothing wrong with having a reasonably high level of carbs but it's more ideal if you at least have good ones rather than just inject yourself with sugar constantly. Also, demonising protein and fat is just as dumb as doing the same to carbs. Moderation, balance, etc.

Having a lot of carbs will certainly give you more energy than (for example) someone eating no carbs and going into ketosis.

Not a go at you - just at Fruitcake Rider.

I know he's a fruitcake.

He's also a very talented cyclist - better than I will ever be 2000%

I eat too much fat and sugar.

I'm overweight, albeit not by a great amount.

Worth a try.

He's full vegan - worse even, raw vegan.

I have no intention of stopping eating meat, just I will reduce the amount I have a great deal.

Today I've done 13 hilly windy miles.

Ate 4 bananas, a large bowl of pasta with rocket, spinach, tomatoes, sweet peppers, baby sweetcorn, garlic, spring onion, and mange tout.

For tea I had similar, but with boiled new potatoes instead of pasta and a few smoked mackerel pieces broken up on top.

Very tasty, I really enjoyed it. My wife enjoyed it so much, she's taking what's left to work for her dinner!

Drank water, no tea or coffee.

Absolutely. He's certainly a great cyclist. Unfortunately he seems to believe that being a great cyclist means that his diet is the best thing in the world and refuses to consider that it might not be all he believes it to be.

Sounds like your diet is a somewhat better than his from what you've just posted :)

edit: Though if you're wanting to lose weight I wouldn't take his view that you can eat what you want as long as it's high carb even remotely seriously. You'll need to eat at a deficit.

Anyhow, my £350 Allez is nearly finished!

I've had to rebuild the rear wheel, it was very badly put together, poorly tensioned spokes and badly out of shape.

Shimano hubs on Mavic rims, so I'm happy with that.

I've replaced the white bar tape with black, and fitted 2 bottle cages.

I had a Thomson inline seatpost left over from a mountain bike I had, that has gone on.
Just need a 90mm stem to finish it off.

Parts bought:

  • 2 x bottle cages
  • bar tape
  • 90mm stem - not purchased yet
  • cable rub protection stickers

Photo coming soon!

Just had a look through his strava, he doesnt seem to be that fast really?
Of about 6 rides in the past week, he's only broken 15mph avg once - most are around 12-13mph. A lot of flat riding as well, and the hills are not massive.

He has done some massive miles though, 300ish miles in a day, etc - a lot more than i could do. And, of course, i dont know anything about him or his riding, so he could just be having a rest week or something.

My waist is looking trimmer from just stopping eating crisps!

By eating more carbs than I would, I am less hungry, therefore snack less, I suspect my calorie intake is much less than it was despite eating more carbs.

That's strange. Normally fat and protein are regarded as more sating than carbs for a given amount.

Fat makes you feel full, no doubt.

It's also hard to digest, and makes you feel sluggish especially if you have had a Cholecystectomy like I have.

I'm not sure i'd agree with "one of the best climbers in Australia" though.

Reckon's he can climb with the best of them at tour speeds.

Never met the guy, so I can't comment.

Won 6 out of 6 races.

Can't descend at race speeds.

He doesn't strike me as a BS er. Nutcase, maybe.
