Yes its an astra.

Looking to replace my 07 1.6 Focus titanium that im bored stiff of, is slow and is giving crap mpg(30-35 tops). Its also starting to have bits die and is needing a few repair jobs, most recent is altinator just this week.

Will be using it to commute and general stuff and my wife will use it to go accross the country for her job maybe once a month ish for client visits.

advantage of buying from this garage is that it is my wifes uncles garage and i could possibly get it at cost to him.

a quick we buy any car says my car is worth 3k ish.
 
I think you could probably drive it through a flood, get stuck, leave it for a week, and nobody would have even noticed it was there.

A Vauxhall Astra diesel is your answer then?

In fairness, the new Vauxhall Astra isn't meant to be too bad (nowhere near as bad as the old one was), but still, it's £9500 for a Vauxhall Astra diesel and since you're looking for more excitement and more performance - i just don't think this is going to deliver it (surprise surprise).

However, on the face of it it should be a reliable, newish car, still under warranty with a *bit* more poke (but unfortunately no more excitement). And at least it isn't a 10 year old diesel that will cost more to run that it'll save - you should actually save money on fuel and of course, as your wife's uncle likes to point out, "30 POUNDS PER YEAR ROAD TAX" which is fair enough.

I've just had another skim of the ad and worryingly, it says "part service history". How does a 3 year old, 20000 mile car which was only serviced some 12 months ago, only have part service history?!

Then there is no point getting a diesel. You simply don't do the mileage to get any benefit from it. You'd need to be doing double that to start saving money, and since you aren't, you'll be left with a car that sounds like a Ford Transit, vibrates like a Ford Transit, and comes with all the annoying diesel potential problems such as DPF's, turbos, injectors etc.

If you are bored stiff of your focus then why would you make a side wards step to it's biggest and inferior competitor? Surely you would go for something different or you'll be in the same situation further down the line.
 
The new(ish) Astra is a good car, better or at least as good as the mk3 focus imo.

However I don't really see that it resolves what's driving you to change, a diesel one is also unlikely to be a good idea given you don't really travel much.

Your mpg on the Focus sounds fine tbh, assuming that's some mixed driving you're achieving it from?

I just don't really see much benefit in changing from one run of the mill hatch i.e your focus to another i.e the Astra.

Unfortunately I also don't think there would be much to gain from the suggestions above either - the Leons of that age have one of the worst interiors of any modern car and whilst I like the civic I don't see why you'd spend £6k changing to one...much like the astra, which is at least a newer generation of car.

Im not just bored of it because it is slow, just the car in general and want something new.

Im not after pure performace... i would not be looking at an astra diesel. Just a nicer all round similar car.

It will be good for the wife to travel in and if kids come along in the next 2 years i wont have to change.
 
As above don't bother with diseasel.

and if you go a little older for that kinda of money could probably get a kitted out insignia.
they look nice in blue imho.

I prefer the older model astras tho
 
Stay away from the Astra, it will offer you no improvement over your existing Focus other than costing you several ££k to change.

And also stay away from WBAC, your Focus is worth far more than £3k.
 
I was just using wbac for a rough price.

Was going to use my car as a deposit. For him to sell it I would have to leave it will him so be carless for a bit which I can't be.

I will have to see if he can get anything else in.
 
As above, that Astra is by no means an upgrade to a Focus Titanium, and don't bother with diesel at 10k a year.

An 07 Focus shouldn't be starting to just "die". It would be far more economical to get whatever repairs need doing done to it and svae your money until you've decided on a better type of car to upgrade to.
 
Why would anybody swap a Focus wonder car of Epicness for a ******* Astra ? :confused:


There may be a tad amount of Bias in this post, I know it's hard to tell which is why I am pointing it out here.
