4 x 290 Watercooled?

Yeah Greg, im fully aware of the price, when i bought my Phantek case originally it was to run 2 x 290 WC'd, but as im going to swap my gaming gear into an NZXT case i can use my Phanteks for 4 x 290 Wc'd for now :)

Nice and I look forward to your build log :)

Personally for 4 cards I'd go with a similar setup to Kappy and run dual PSUs. Three 290X should run just fine on a 1200W Plat SF, but not sure how much headroom it'll give you with volts

Get at the very minimum a 1300W PSU such as the EVGA 1300 G2 that can give you a bit more than that if needed. Don't cheap out on the PSU when mining 24/7.

As above, was about to post the same but got DC'd :)

What are the 1300W ones like? Are they built to the same specificaiton as the 1200W?

Nope, they are GOLD rated, still an exceptional unit, but the Platinums are hugely over-engineered and under-specified, for example the 1200W Platinums are probably good enough to meet 1500W Platinum grade.

Super-flower under-rate everything, they would rather under promise and over deliver, that way customers are impressed, happy and reliability is the best. :)

Not hugely impressive, but for me the 1200w has not hiccuped running 3 780Tis at 1.212v and 4960 @ 1.4v

Fair enough, I didn't check UK pricing but here the 1300W G2 is a steal at the price.

Edit: Nevermind, I barely see it in stock anymore here. I suppose EVGA are spending resources on their new 1500W PSU coming up.

Anyone doing mining I think should go for the biggest PSU they can get. If you run a PSU near it's limits it is not as efficient as a bigger PSU only at say 75% load. For mining 24/7 using a smaller PSU could actually cost you money in the long run.

The Evga G2 1300 is a great psu but - 3930K @5.0 (1.485v) and 3 overvolted Titans at anymore than 1267(1.275v) = Shutdown :(

So glad I bought 2 :D

However, would love to give the SF 1200 platinum a whirl :)

Thing is the 4 cards would be undervolted and the would be no oc on the CPU etc, g3220 CPU with 8gb ram and running bamt off a USB drive, so the wattage is purely going to the cards.

Wouldn't you rather buy something at a higher fixed rate initially that saves you money with time due to higher efficiency and potentially allowing you to run the cards slightly faster for a higher hash rate?

I had priced up going for 4x 290's to mine with and the upgrade costs for me were eye watering (2011 chip + board, 900d, new psu + all the wc gear) and decided against it.

I'm confused though. Why bother with spending £700 or so to watercool cards if you are not even going to game with it? Surely it is better to just stick them in a crate with risers and save your self £600.

Reckon it'll be based on the 1200W Superflower? ;) lol

No idea, they are quite mum about it which is a bit out of character for them. They are introducing their own individually sleeved cable set soon based on paracord so I guess there would be more news of this PSU then.

Not sure what to do now tbh, I had 3k ready to spend on stuff at OCUK but the prices have gone up so ridiculously in the past few days I'm just going to spend it elsewhere on other things I think. I was offered a good deal on some 290's but to make them work I would need to watercool them really as they are reference ones and I just don't want the noise or heat.

I'm going to look around and see how much it will cost me to watercool 4 290s, I have a case already to use and I have my old storm trooper to house my gaming rig, really all I need to buy is psu, mobo, USB stick and ram plus the loop.

But it seems everything has been hiked in price these past few days on OCUK.

Shame :(

Noise and heat mainly, if I watercool them I can keep them in a case near my gaming rig, otherwise I have to move it to the loft and get a sparky in to sort the wiring etc etc

My 3 x 290 at the settings below are pulling 1150 watts at the wall with an evga 1300 g2 and stock i920 - these give 860 kh/s each ...
