My AMD Catalyst drivers aren't detecting my Panasonic P50VT65 tv via HDMI

So I finally bought a 7.5 metres long Hi-Speed HDMI cable to connect my desktop to my plasma, but for some reason I can't understand, neither my two AMD 6950s is detecting the tv. I tried to get the AMD Catalyst drivers to detect it, but it's not working.
Crossfire is turned on.

My monitor, connected to the graphics card by HDMI as well, isn't detected if I plug it to GPU#2, however GPU#2 used to be GPU#1 just two months ago, so it's highly unlikely that the HDMI port stopped working in the mean time.

Any ideas?

It's a Panasonic issue with overscan afaik.

There is a workaround, but iirc, to invoke the HDMI, you hook up by vga first, then you set the resolution-I think.

Someone here knows exactly what to do-but I can't remember who it was, it's not your gpu's, it's a common Panasonic HDMI via PC specific issue, you should be able to google it.

Ok, thank you for your insight. Unfortunately Google didn't yield anything pertinent.

However I don't think I'll be able to sort anything on the TV if the Catalyst drivers don't even detect that they're connected to another screen. So I'm still strongly inclined to think that the issue starts with the drivers.

Hi Zelot,

I have that TV & its amazing, its a shame it will be the last of the panny plasma's, however onto the matter at hand,

I maybe able to try this out tonight before i head off to stoke if not i will look at it on saturday night when i get back,

As far as I'm aware in crossfire all monitors/tvs need to attach to GPU 1, I do have AMD but the 290's, so i might be able to work out how to get it working for ya, if not i have some 6970's knocking about and if i get time i will put them in to try and be as like for like as i can.

Until then good luck

The Panny has no settings in regards to PC inputs. All overscan and resolution settings must be done on the PC.

Try with a shorter cable and re-install drivers or try it on a laptop for example. I don't know whats wrong, but the issue is with your PC.

You could try 1366x720 or 1280x720 too to see if it works at all. And refresh rate to 60.

El_Jock I think you're my saviour!!! :D
By all means, don't worry if you have to delay your research by another day, no problem at all. Considering how little (read: none) replies I've been getting from the several forums I asked for help, you're a godsend.

And yes, this TV is phenomenal. I just can't recommend it enough.

right o,

Just took my pc into the living room, thrown the HDMI cable in, hit power and whilst i don't get the bios screen that's just a mess, it does boot into windows fine, I have not changed any settings in windows or CCC, from what is normal for a 1080p monitor

On the panny plasma menu for the HDMI input you plan to use for the PC, there are options to turn off over-scan, i have it off as its a 1080 display getting a 1080 input, no need to over-scan...

the only real diff i can see our the 6950's vs 290's,

I would reset you settings in CCC to default, make sure all options that should be off on the plasma are off "over-scan etc, then just plug the computer into the plasma no other monitors and see what happens

Sorry mate, but where exactly is the overscan option? I just haven't found it. I'll see online if I can find it in case you're already on your journey, but if you do, please let me know.

Ok, here's the thing.

I still didn't get any picture, so I started to uninstall the drivers. While doing so, my monitor's picture went black and the desktop popped-up on the TV. This is great news, because it shows that the graphics card can connect to the TV.

When I rebooted and installed the new drivers (13.12), the same thing happened, my monitor's picture went black and the desktop popped-up on the TV. Then it went black again when the desktop returned to my monitor.

I now think I have a registry error, because there's a screen detected as Display #2, but on VGA? I never had anything connected by VGA on these cards, ever. In fact, I don't even have a VGA port on my cards!

Here's the screenshot.

What should I do now?

Ok,

Just got back from airsoft & see its not going great guns so far,

Have a few questions for ya / things to test.

Have you tested just the Plasma with no monitor attached?

On the picture above you have "multiple displays" reads show desktop on 1 only, what other options are there on this pull down, you want something like extend desktop if you want a double wide desktop or duplicate if you want them both showing the same thing

If that brings nothing to the table...

In Device manager under monitors do you have 2 displays?

If so remove both (1 at a time) but start with the non viewsonic 1 and allow the computer to pick them both back up see if that clears it, you may need to restart.

Also under CCC locate the desktop management tab

then create & arrange desktops, you should see both display in a big box, with both displays in a small box at the bottom,

Display 2 maybe disabled? turn it back on / duplicate or extend it

Have a go with that see what happens

EL_JOCK I need your help again.

I already sold, posted and delivered my old 6950s, now I have two R9 280X.

I gave it another try, now with the Catalyst 14.11.1 drivers, and gosh darn it, it still doesn't work with both cables connected.
I can now get picture in my TV, so the cable is definitely fit for purpose.
What I can't get is both the monitor and the TV connected at the same time. Only the display connected to GPU #1 will show anything, while the display connected to GPU #2 doesn't ever get detected, regardless of which display it is!

This is driving me mad, and now I even have pressure from my wife, she wants to watch educational videos from an online learning centre (and the TV's browser is not compatible with the videos' codec, yay!), so I really need to get this sorted!

Here's a screenshot from when the TV is connected to GPU#1, while my monitor was connected to GPU#2.

I have a Panasonic 55VT50 and it's always worked, on my 6870, R9 290x and now my 295x2

They should both connect to the SAME GPU, not different ones.

And use 'Extended' display.

Also, switch your monitor cable in to a different DVI output, I think the HDMI and one of the DVI outputs 'share' so to speak. If one if active, the other is disabled.

By the way, new question, what do I need to do so that the TV plays its video's sounds while my monitor plays my video's sounds?
Imagine youtube playing on one browser on the tv while I want to have youtube playing on another browser on the monitor/headphones, at the same time.

Bit pointless having Crossfire if you have to turn it off.

Like I said, they should both connect to the same GPU and you can keep Crossfire on.

Not sure about your audio question though. I can only have one enabled at a time but that's with extended desktop.

In crossfire only 1 hdmi port works and it may be that all monitors need to be connected to the same gpu in crossfire mode .
As for the sound output. the most uncomplicated way of outputting different video sound to each display is to get a 2nd computer lol.
