Bone Marrow? Cook what/how?

Noticed on the shelves a few days back bone marrow available, thought it would make a canny starter, packs of 2-4 bones cut lengthways.

Anyone got any tried and tested recipes?

yeah been looking around and everything is saying onion/parsley salad.

Would love to hear how it goes (with pictures ideally ). My experiments with cooking bone marrow didn't go too well. Possibly they were kind of old when I got round to cooking them though...

I often have this as a starter or do it at home. The St John linked recipe is great but if it is not to your taste I simply roast mine, spread on toasted sourdough with a sprinkle of salt and parsley and a dollop of caramelised onion relish. It's like beef flavoured butter!

Waitrose had none left :/
Phoend a loada local butchers.... only 1 knew what I was on about lol!
Managed to get 2 huge chunk of bone end, guess it wont leak now haha
Theyre frozen tho :/ Left em on the bench for a bit then will cook em until they kinda look cooked *shrug* lol

I'm a lover of most meat products but for some reason Bone Marrow freaks me out a bit. Guess Ill have to try it sometime though!

Bone marrow? Isnt that just for dogs and the likes, why would anyone eat that? Get a steak instead.

Try it mate. It's like spreading pure beef flavour on whatever you eat it with.

Guessing they were either too big a section of bone of being frozen but they cooked terribly lol, I blame waitrose for not having the small long sliced ones in stock.

Saved the starter with some black pudding to go with the bread and salsa thing

I keep 2" slices of bone in the freezer and throw one into every stew I make. Makes the sauce really umptious

That sounds like my experience. Rookie mistakes on both our parts

Next time I make bone marrow I'll cook it longer and lower I think.

I've never seen it on it's own tbh. That said, I've only seen it in a couple of places.

yeah was only wondering as I saw it in waitrose when I went in recently and thought ooh.
Was only I think £1.50 for I think 4 lengths of bone.

Course when iw ent for them they had none, ended up trying with bones from the butchers, they were far bigger and frozen

Think I'll keep an eye on waitrose for them and grab a few when they appear.

The Parsley salad survived like I saw with black pudding, the misuss doesnt like parsely but really liked the salad Haha! Told her afterwards what it was xD
