I'm still using an old 6850 and haven't been gaming much since I got it but I'd like to change that and was wondering what's the best card right now if you're on a tight budget. Did a bit of research and as I'm using a cheap 32" 1080p TV as a monitor it looks like the AMD R9 270 is the card to go for, so any recommendations?

Got around £150 to spend but could go a bit higher.

After watching this I was under the impression that the 270 is the card to go for over the 270x

So I'd sorta planned on getting the MSI Radeon R9 270 Gaming Edition OC but you chaps seem to be recommending that I spend the extra and go for a 270x?

First, sorry. you did say 270, not 270X

While the 270 / 270X chips are identical thats not to say they are the same GPU. some of them might have less VRM's or in some other way glued to lesser PCB's.

There is only a £10 difference, and you said £150 or a little more, for that IMO your better off with the 270X with the chance of getting what may be the better allround GPU :)

You make a good point. There's no reason why you can't overclock a 270 to equal a 270x, though you are relying on the silicon lottery - which shouldn't be a problem in most examples.

All recommendations are welcome, I'd even considered a GTX 770 before hearing that the R9 270 is supposedly the sweet spot.

Well Linus does, I don't have a clue.:D

So pay day is coming up & I suppose it'll probably be the cheapest 270x I can find. Cheers.

Yeah. :)

The 270/X is a good card, very very good card for its money, it will do BF4 high settings @ 1080P easily. in that sense. money and performance it is the sweet spot. but no match by some way to the GTX 770.
