Hi, I managed to break the glass on my S4 (very easily) the other day.

Unfortunately I've only had the phone about a week (contract), not sure what to do - I will certainly insure in future but have been looking at getting just the glass replaced (digitizer etc is all fine).

Problem is I can't seem to find anywhere reasonably priced that does just the glass, they all seem to quote for the digitizer as well.

The only place I found was :

http://www.repairworlddirect.co.uk - they do the glass only for £80 but when I phoned, aparently the manager is the only one authorised to do it and he's not back in work for another month....

Anyone got any ideas please?

You'll struggle as the digitizer is bonded to the glass IIRC so it's a pain in the arse and very easy to mess up.
Your best bet would be just stumping up to replace both parts.

Well I did a bit of googling and found they are something to do with 'Mblue Ltd', which has received terrible reviews for various phone/tablet repairs - think I'll give them a miss.

Going to contact Samsung themselves and see how much it will be from them directly.

I bought a screen replacement from resq-technology on eBay. At the time they had no negative or even any neutral and a 300+ score.

Their ad said I get an e-mail when my phone arrives, an e-mail when it goes in for repair, an e-mail when it's on it's way back. 24 hour turn around, 48 hours if busy.

Issues included -

Not getting any e-mails
Being lied to when I called and asked about my phone
I think they damaged it more than it was when I sent it, one dent that I think was new was quoted as the reason they couldn't fit the new glass flush
The phone came back as if it had been soaked in oil, I had to order a new speaker unit
There was no longer any bar codes/numbers on the phone, under the battery
It took 3 weeks to come back to me

When I called to talk to them they just wanted me to send the phone back, there was no way I was doing this.

When I then went to look at feedback, multiple negatives and neutrals, so I guess they bought themselves some decent feedback initially.

I paid around £50 and I guess I got what I paid for.

Be careful.

If you haven't had it long and don't want to invalidate the warranty, then you NEED to get it done directly through Samsung or the place you purchased it from. If you do it yourself and something else goes wrong, then Samsung won't even consider fixing it for you.

It's definitely worth the extra spend to get it fixed properly.

Probably around £200.

It's possible it's better to sell it as broken, maybe around £200-£240, let someone else do the cheap repair and think they have a bargain, then buy a new (2nd hand) one for around £340.

Had mine done at a repair shop in town, apparently a Samsung authorised repair shop. Cost me £120 for the lot and was done in 15 minutes.

Was that glass or the whole screen?

I'd be quite surprised if it was official parts and whole screen at that price (not saying it isn't, just I'd be surprised :) )

Some tax dodging immigrant on eBay doing them for £40, just eBay s4 glass repair.

Edit. Just seen what the guy who paid £50 had done to him, this is no surprise tbh, most people on eBay have undercut the market so bad that only leaves the dodgy kind that don't know what they are doing. Unfortunately when people ring me for repairs you always get the odd retard that will say about mr cheap that does it for £25 on eBay, I always hope they do use mr cheap.

Out of interest, how do you know they were genuine?

I rang four or five repair centres, every one of them told me if I wanted a genuine replacement, it would be £175 to £195. Only a couple offered me a cheaper way of doing it. (not genuine or glass only)

Even looking on eBay for genuine replacements, they almost all are around £140 for the parts alone. Just seems odd they can do it for £120. To me, something is not right.

Well maybe if they are some sort of official samsung repair Center they may get the parts at cost price?
