ARMA II DayZ or DayZ stand alone or Rust?

I've been reading quite a bit about these lately, PC Gamer devotes quite a bit of time to them and they sound quite fun.

I've had a look on the dedicated threads and there seems to be lots of talk of servers which is a bit beyond me so, I'm interested in 'having a go' with the missus. We would be gaming on two machines in the same room and would be wanting to roam the world together so what would you recommend?

Which out of the three seems to be most fun / stable / populated / easy to get into etc. etc.

Cheers! :D

They are all populated, but I'd say that at this point there isn't a huge amount of reason to get ARMA 2 over DayZ, sure ARMA 2 has some cool DayZ mods like Epoch but it also has a ton of bull**** that comes with the base game. The standalone has a better inventory system, and better loot despite the fact it's rare as crap. It has the weapon customization from ARMA 3 in it too, and some graphical enhancements.

As for Rust, I have no idea but I'm yet to hear bad things besides hackers, but they apparently banned a few thousand recently and servers have proper anti-hack tools in place finally.

i have all three i play standalone only .

dayz mod is only epoch now ! so basically admins of server give themselves best crap and control server. okay if you in with admins :p

rust is bad graphics small map you basically build a fort then admin spawns gear in teleports to you or you get hacked (big wave of bans lately ) how he sells it for 15 quid when garys mod is better more content and 1.50 :D . cant see how it will progress or get better. it will end up like dayz mod private servers you donate to buy gear admin kills you whenever he wants with spawned gear.

Dayz standalone plays better than mod has a chance at being great early on in making. graphically better than mod better inventory and some great new things added. patching is regular now and BI actually own it and are doing majority of work now so it should progress at a good speed with great content.

no admin tools yet probably till end of year but no exploitation which is awesome ! seen one hacker since starting alpha aswell so pretty decent .

Arma 3 : breaking point

How anyone can play dayz anymore is beyond me, breaking point is what dayz standalone should have been.

Dayz SA is the future. Played recently and was very impressed, the only thing that is stopping me from playing further is the lack of vehicles. At the moment my character is where the road runs out in the very north west... it will take me 3 hours to get from there to elektro, maybe a whole day as I walk to conserve energy (this helps with food). At the moment I have 50% of a box of cereal and 2 cans of tuna/beans but only a screwdriver to open them with, as a result I have to be careful on the food front.

DayZ 2: The Return of the Zombies! LOL

Future: predicted. :p

Not sure if it's been changed, but super sprinting (sprinting unarmed with your fists raised) is the most efficient way of getting around, infact the faster you move the more ground you cover compared to energy consumed. More miles to the bean so to speak. I'll find the vidya.

Highly realistic I know. :p

You want to ignore the text above. It's not accurate in the slightest.

I have played Arma II Dayz mod and it is fun but in the end just too soul destroying. Unless you can dedicate hours of your life and have a group of mates who can do the same so that you can get all the good loot and hoard it then you'll spend most of your time dying and re-spawning.

Rust is great but only if you can find a good server.

If that is actually the case then it is well recieved from me - if I press G1 on my gigabyte osmosium it is bound to a macro that makes my player run at 0.01 latency - which is super sprint, without me having to hold the key down :D

Thanks for all the replies this afternoon folks, they make a really interesting read!

It seems like there isn't a clear cut case, though DayZ sounds like more of a fully realised game at this point. bignev72 hit the nail on the head though, we simply don't have time to spend hours on the game, we wanted something we could dip into and out of for a bit of a wheeze now and again.

I think perhaps we'll try the DayZ mode with Arma II, we've both got all we need for that on Steam so I think trying something that's a bit outdated but doesn't cost any extra may be the way to go...unless everyone has flooded onto the stand alone DayZ by now!

If you want to play now, Rust is the way to go for the sheer content it has including decent base building. DayZ SA is one to have in 6-7 months time. Although DayZ mod is still pretty damn amazing with a massive player base still.

Ofc there's no biast opinion there!!!!

Dont listen to DG. You'll never meet such a butt hurt guy when it comes to things he doesn't play anymore!!!!

If you do go with the mod and play Epoch stick to the MGT servers.

If you're a total nub to dayz then Standalone is the way. The game is as basic as dayz gets and is the least painful!

Get Arma 2 and play DayZ, Wasteland and all the other outstanding mods for it.

DayZ Standalone is not a fun game at all. There are only a few zombies at the server restart and both zombie and loot does not respawn. It's hideously buggy and will only get worse over the next few months.

Rust is as above, they are both early access which means if you can't afford both of them don't get either.

Arma 2 is stable and has a very strong mod community. It's also a much better game than Arma 3.

+1

Stay clear of DayZ Standalone. Not only is it incredibly tedious, but it incredibly boring too. A few years or decades time it may be an ok game, but ATM without vehicles and hard zombies, it's just a running simulator.

DayZ Mod Epoch is fantastic still, and a lot of the fun is the banter in side chat, the SA doesn't have side chat because Rocket says no, a bit like that annoying computer.

Yup... Pretty much spot on!!!

Although Dayz is part running simulator part zombie fashion wear game... I hear they've added some really cool cowboy hats and puff coat...

Yeah Goon, what is it with the idiot Rocket putting in absolute ridiculous, unnecessary things like face masks, yet he's trying to make it realistic by making it incredibly tedious. What next, introducing the need to wear socks?

Ah not just me then, I bought the stand alone played it for a dew days and nothing happened, I met nobody, found nothing, saw no zombies and died twice. I haven't and wont touch it again.

I've watched static and been more engrossed.
