Hi all,

I've a 2006 2.0 Audi A4, just the bog standard engine (no turbos/FSI etc).

Coming home tonight I was driving along, accelerating off a random approaching traffic lights when the car felt sluggish all of a sudden. slowed down for the traffic lights as they were on red and noticed the car was vibrating.

Thought maybe it was a flat tyre, jumped out, nothing. It's definitely mechanical.

It feels like a tractor, engine management light is flashing at me, if I am driving along at 30mph in 3rd it's not that noticeable, change to 4th at its more evident, 5th and the car is vibrating so badly that the interior is creaking. Dump my foot on the clutch to coast and it seems to stop.

I've a video of the engine with my hand on it while its idling and you can see my fingers shaking from side to side, i'll link to it when its uploaded.

Any ideas what it could be? and more importantly, how much it'll cost to fix :(

Spark plugs
Coils
Injectors
Valves

If it's misfiring it could damage the catalytic converter with unburnt fuel so get it sorted asap.

This is where a code reader comes in handy you can see which cylinder is not firing and swap over a coil on the offending cylinder to see if it goes away. If it's a petrol that is.

Chances are its a coil pack that has failed, if it is, you will most likely be able to get them replaced free of charge from Audi as there was a massive recall on coil packs on petrol VAG cars from around 2000-2007.

Yep, research says it is more than likely the coils. trying to find a local mechanic to come and check it over (I don't want to risk any damage by driving it) but they are all busy until next week, and i'm due at work at 4pm :S

Decided I need a vagcom, i've 3 corrado's that need work and the Audi. Can anyone tell me what I need and where to get it from?

2 coil ordered from GSF, £50, hoping it's just one and hoping they'll be delivered tomorrow.

Can't really afford another day off work.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Try Here there are other places too.

Since you obviously rather like VAG cars, I would push the boat out and get the "Full" version.

Once purchased you get free software upgrades for life and VAG-COM is the next best thing to full official VAG diagnostic kit.

(Be aware however that, though VAG-COM tries to interpret the data blocks for you pretty well the VAG data block system is bloody awful (This is not VAG-COMS fault!) and not particularly intuitive.)
