I'm not sure whether to post this here or in the crypto thread but here goes. I have got a third 280x arriving later today and was all set to use my brothers old power supply to run it. He told me it was a decent make, fully modular and either 850 or 1000w so I thought nothing of it until I took it out of his case today and found it was a Icute 500w which worries me a little. Below is what I believe to be the important information from the side of the power supply.

Icute
500w peak 400w rated
(+12V1)+(+12V2) =< 300w
fully modular with four 6+2 pin connectors
+12V1 20A
+12V2 20A

I know its a bad psu but hopefully it will be good enough to run a single 280x until I can afford a new one. Would you suggest just waiting?

Thanks I was starting to think that tbh. I've got about £100 in bitcoins at the moment so might have to cash out and get one. Was just trying to hold on to them while we are in this slump.

Thank you I'm going to have a phone around some local shops to see what they have got first. I really want to have a play with it as I'm back at work tomorrow so wont have the time if I order one. Knowing local shops though I will end up getting one off here.

Second vote for EVGA 600W as being one of your best bets under £50. I've run two of them with MSI Gaming GTX 770's, which are the equivalent of 280X's. No issues, nice and quiet. The next one up the line I would get is the SuperFlower GG HX 550W.

YOUR BASKET
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £59.99
Total : £69.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Bit less power (insignificantly so) than the EVGA, but better quality and longer warranty.

You can run that on a 350watt psu as long as it has 20A or so on the rail but not an icute as they fail bigtime. for 12v and thats with an overclocked 4670k. Of course you should never run on such a minimal supply long term so anything by corsair right from bottom to top of the range will be just fine. icute = lower than it says power on 12v rails despite the listed power (tried one from maplin and couldnt boot a 4890 lolololol so do not under any circumstances buy psus from maplins as their 850watt psus wouldnt even run 1 4870x2 card using both rails!

Just got back from maplins ;) I got a corsair cx750m which should do me fine for running the 280x and hopefully a second when the funds are available.
